Had a question for you knowledgeables out there. I have a 5/16 x 14 pin on my cue but the hole around the collar that fits the shaft pilot isn't big enough to fit the extra thick pilot on the schon. I really want to play with the shaft so should I..

1) mill the collar to fit the pilot

2) change the collar to something larger to accomadate

3) mill the pilot on the shaft to make it thinner so it will fit the collar.

Which one of these solutions are possible and which one would I be able to exploit to the greatest degree of success in terms of quality of the work without compromising the intregity of the shaft/cue?

Yes it can be done.....

> I have done this particular procedure, and cutting the pilot on the shaft down is the best way to go. The way I did it was measure the pilot on the shaft,it came out to .530 on this one, within .001 of the other 5 Schon shafts I measured for comparison, just to see if this dimension was typical. I measured the bored hole in the steel collar of the Espiritu butt I was matching this shaft to,and it came out to .500. Since my metal lathe is too small to do this,I spun the shaft in my wood lathe, which runs at about 1200 RPM and reduced the diameter with several different needle files, using meticulously placed clear duct tape to protect the joint facing. I measured it constantly, and used my test indicator to make sure it was still perfectly round. I got it to line up perfect, with no wobble, and the joint collars were within .002 of matching the steel joint dead flush. Tommy D.
