Getting Better and Getting Older???

For what ever reason, despite my back problems pool is getting easier for me, I was talking to Shannon Daulton yesterday about this, I told him that when I was 20 I would have to look and see what side of the 8 I would need to be on to play shape for the 9, he said "yeah, it looked like a jigsaw puzzle right?" he was spot on, now I dont have to walk around the table to know what side of the ball I need to be on. It is all comming together for me.

I was like 14 when I learned to ride a bike, I just am a late starter on things I guess. But now pool is just getting easier and easier, sure its a hard game but the simple things and my coordination are getting better, I can get away with things now and the balls just go in, where before I was awakward.

Has there ever been any other players who really improved at 40? Ususally you gotta have it by the time your 21 to be a top player, I'm not talking about that but has there been anyone who had a big jump in their game in their 40's? I feel like I can/am and my back prohibits me from playing 75% of the time. I will never say I'll never be a top player because I never count myself out of anything but its very unlikely i'll ever beat SVB(but never say never) Being realistic is it possible to jump 5 balls in your 40's? I feel like I have jumped at least 2 this past year when i'm hitting them good. I dont remember playing like I do now before or pool seeming as easy as it is.

thanks

A highly regarded poolplayer and friend once told me that a pool player does not reach his prime until his forties.

The two players that immediately came to mind when I read the first post were Mike Lebron (who was previously mentioned) and a player from here in Texas, Bob Vanover.

Back when I was playing a lot in the late 80's and early 90's Bob was already in his 50's and was pretty much one of the 2 or 3 best tournament players in the state.

Unless memory fails me he won the BCA 8-ball in his 50's and he was definitely on the winning team a couple of times.

Whenever I think my pool opportunities have passed me by I think of Bob and I get right back on the horse of improvement.

old??

Well i must say that i am getting better, but it is thanks to vigera!! as far as riding a bike, i have always thought that was to much on your leg just to give your a** a ride, but if they ever make a pill for my pool game i will be in!!! what we talking about:confused:    STICK:p

Fatboy,

I didn't get a chance to read all the posts but I sure hope you can continue to get better. I just turned 47 yesterday and have every intension of doing so. I play on an 8-ball league where a 75 yr old won the individual title about a yr or two ago. He continues to be in the top five year after year. He has had knee operations and is losing his memory but still plays very well.
Never stop trying to improve. It's not the destination but the trip.

Good Luck! :)
