Getting better at Long, straight in shots.

Just shoot at the center of the CB. If you are not hitting the center you will miscue.

This isn't strictly true - you can put some english on the cue ball without chalk - not very much, but enough to get shape on lots of shots. This kind of practice is really valuable for showing you how much spin you can live without.

Here is a drill that I do for long straight in shots.

I put 4 balls 1 diamond in from the long rails and two diamonds up from the short rails. I shoot each shot straight in. If I miss I start over. The first round I just shoot them to make them. The second round I shoot stop shots. If I make the ball but it is not a stop shot then I start over. The thirds round I try to draw it back two diamonds and so on. Don't know if you want to try it but it sure works for me.

CueTable Help

As an example: I was at the local pool hall watching a ring game ($5 on the 9) and asked if I could join in. They said sure but I would have to go last in the rotation. This was with 3 very good players. 1 - 10-1 and two 10's. I didn't get to shoot the first game and the second game I was left the shot diagramed below. It was my first shot of the day but felt very confident I could make it and drilled it. All 3 of them said great shot which made me feel great. I ended up playing about 3 hours and lost about 35 bucks but over all it was a great experience and I won a total of 3 games but none felt sweeter than this one.

CueTable Help

My inner thoughts on long-to-the-ball... long-to-the-hole.. shots are:

1. get, and stay on, the vertical centerline of whitey

2. align center-to-center (cue ball to object ball)

3. fine tune... align edge-to-edge (cue ball to object ball)

4. stay still... stroke straight... all the way through whitey
