Getting into pool shape for the upcomming season

At the end of last season I lost in unforgiveable manner. The game was 8-ball, both players are on the 8, I am up at the table the 8 is 2 inches or less from the corner pocket on the rail and I gave it the old one stoke shot and missed, I lost and wanted to puke my guts out (there was good money ridding on that shot $1,700 winner take all), what happend, that's not me???? or is it??? I didn't touch a cue for 3 months after that, confidence was shaken and everyone saw me choke my brains out that day.

I played recently 10-ball, much better game but I seem to have lost a 1 1/2 ball in the process. i have about 8 weeks to get back into shape before next go arround, and i want to know what you guys do wen it is time to get serious, maybe bet back up to my top speed and maybe try to gain 1/2 a ball more (i know i'm dreaming, but at least i want to put my self on the road to 1/2 ball more).

What are your preffered drills that make you want to play for hours not bore you to death?

What are the skills you focus on the most, do you go back to basics and do stroke work day in and day out?

How do you fine tune your potting skills?

You've made it to a high level of play, what were the big deferentiators for you?

The very first thing

In your shoes the very first thing I would do is laugh about that dumb kluck move on the eight and put it in a box a long ways behind you. That isn't the normal you, forget about it!

I don't do much in the way of drills, a lack of patience. I play myself eight ball or particularly one pocket, once in awhile rotation. If I can play myself with full focus playing absolutely the best shots and safeties I can then I find it every bit as good, often better, than practicing with a partner. If you try one pocket, never go down to the last ball on the table. That can go on for days.

You are going to have to do whatever brings you focus on the table. The best drills in the world are worthless if you lose focus doing them. One shot executed for an hour is great if you fully focus on it every shot.
