I haven't worked out in forever. Ok so I started working out my arms last week. I haven't shot in a few days and boom now I go to play and I mean I am way out of line. My stroke doesn't feel straight. I am miscuing, not holding the cue correctly:mad: ...etc...this is bad.has anyone dealt with this before? Is this because I have pulled/tightened some muscles in my arms?? Advice, anyone???

Are your arms still sore from working out?

It's nothing to worry about, as long as you keep up on your flexibility by stretching before and after working out. If your muscles are still sore, you are not going to have full range of motion that you are accustomed to having...Therefore you won't be able to stroke properly. Quickest way to get rid of the soreness is to keep working out, and make sure to stretch really well before and after..

Just for sh*ts and g*ggles, try playing when your muscles are still fatigued from the workout. I always played my best then - it probably took the tension/jitters out of my stroke.

Your problem will pass as your muscles become accustomed to working out again. My advice, however, will be to schedule your workouts and your pool so that they don't conflict with one another. If you can, the best time to work your arms will be as soon as possible after you play. That way your arms will have the maximum time to recover before your next pool session. Also, if pool is a primary concern for you, shy away from high weights. For pool, the best arm work out is low to medium weight and high reps. That way your tear as little tissue as possible and retain the maximum sensitivity and range of motion. Pushups are ideal in this regard.

every time you work out and you then go and play pool, you will always be tight.you have to just wait it out.you will get your game back fast dont freak out.

There is a very easy answer to this: when you finished your workout walk briskly for 10 -15 minutes. It works.

thanx

thanks for the reply's everyone. i'm sittin here ready to hock my cues all freakin out and what not.lol..

Work the back as well and hit the Lats hard. And Delts.
This solved the problem you are talking about and brought me back in line.

This is the best advice I've seen on this topic so far. When I hit the gym I do my weight training first. When I'm finished I'll do my cardio workout. The reason is because the cardio gets the blood pumping to your entire body rather than just to the muscles you've worked. The result is less soreness. IF you are sore the following day just do 15-20 minutes of cardio and you'll be fine.

Great post VIP. Especially the bold portion.

Also after your workout take some protein. This will greatly reduce how sore you are the next day. Taking the protein plus stretching should keep you in good condition to play later :)

I always found that working out hurt my game, especialy since I was such a feel/instinct player. Getting a bit more mechanical helped me counter it somewhat, but I still play my best pool after I've missed a workout.

don't worry it happens. since you haven't been working out in a while just let your body get used to it and you'll be back in stroke in no time. this also happened to me. i couldn't get my rythm goin and my stroke was just all over the place but if you're consistent enough you muscle will get used to it.

Massage

If you are lifting heavy or having excess lactic acid build up in your muscles I would suggest regular massages. Make sure it is deep tissue massage or at least a sports therapy style massage to get the best benefits. This will also keep your muscles more elastic in the long run. Good luck.

Since you haven't worked out in a while, I would suggest working out every other day, preferably on days that you don't play pool so that your muscles have more time to recover.

good post professor as he gets use to working out he will get his feel back, but all changes in muscles will hurt his touch or feel
