Well, i have been thinking about getting a Gilbert J/b to use as a all around playing, cue to be able to break, play and jump with.

I have never played with a Gilbert, so i am looking for some info, on how it feels, balance, deflection, hit, how it jumps, what kinda tip it has.

If i do decided to buy this cue, it wont be for a couple weeks. I am just looking for some reviews on likes n dislikes of this cue. I do know i havent heard really any bad comments on his cues, but ya never know.

> The only Gilbert I've really played any with was one of his plain 4 points with the full length steel joint. It hit very well, and felt nice in my hands, even though I don't really like leather wraps. His break/jump cues are very popular, and the little bit I've used one it kicked ASS. His workmanship and materials are just about on par with anyone, and his cues are usually pretty unique. He is also great on repairs and a super nice guy to deal with by all accounts. I was told a story about him taking longer that expected on a repair or custom cue and sent the customer his PERSONAL cue to play with until he was finished, pretty jam-up I'd say. Tommy D.

As far as I'm concerned, the Gilber J/B that I have is the greatest investment I've ever owned. I don't use my GJB as my primary playing cue, but when I'm in the zone, and have a good lay after the break, I often run the rack out with my Gilbert rather than breaking my rythm by returning to my chair to get my play cue. As far as deflection goes? My answer to that question would be as much as you want, or as little as you want. It depends on your stroke. I trust my Gilbert just as much as my main playing cue.

You can play with a Gilbert J/B as your normal shooting cue, but the sound of the tip has a ping to it is a pretty hard leather tip. You can break with it of course, as you should be able to break with any regular cue, and the tip can handle the abuse.

Jumping however, you need to be a good jumper to use it. Compared to any of the phenolic-tipped jump cues, it's no comparson. THe Gilbert cannot jump as automatically. YMMV, but I doubt it.

I have both the normal Giblert break shaft with hard leather tip as well as Gilbert shaft with a break tip. FWIW.
