Does anyone know where I can get frames that I can use while playing pool. I just got glasses for the first time this week, when I get down on a shot I am looking over my frames. Help!!

I hope you get some feedback...I wear bi-focals and have to take them off to play pool. If I wear them, the cue ball is fuzzy...take them off, the CB is clear and I can't see the object ball if is at the other end of the table....guess I should just be good enough to have all short shots. Mike

Howard Vickery (spelling?) used to endorse glasses for playing. The glasses were a little larger and raised a little so that when you bend down to play, you're not looking through the top of the frame.

i have the same problem. i take my glasses off when i play. The balls are not as clear and sharp compared to when i wear glasses. Im thinking of trying to use contact lenses. But im afraid all the smoke, chalk dust etc., might cause eye problems. Good eyesight is definitely an asset in pool. I will try to ask my friend(ophthalmologist) if its ok to use contact lenses while playing pool.

I know someone who wears their glasses "upside down" when playing. What the person did was actually attach the temples upside down onto the front piece. Looks funny but it works.

Take a look a Karen Corr's eyeglasses. They're raised, too.

Sup dude? Check out the glasses Earl is using. I think you can have prescriptions made for them. Something is needed to improve your game, LOL,,,,,,,,,$Bill

yep, i remember earl was wearing that same glasses but with a weird orange lens while he was playing here in the philippines? weird eh? hehe.

anyway, i have this friend whom i have teaching to play pool and i want to tell him that he wont be any better because of his poor eyesight and he cant see clear if he takes his glasses off...

I've played with both contacts and glasses, and I have to say that contacts are much superior to glasses IMO. Unless you get huge lenses and frames you will find yourself straining your neck and scrunching up your nose to raise the top of the frames. It will completely screw up your stroke.

Smoke does suck at times, but keep some re-wetting drops in one of the pockets of your case and you'll probably be fine.

Finally, unless you have a really strange prescription, get the daily disposable contacts. Being able to put fresh ones in at any time is great, and you can easily keep spares around so if you lose one it isn't a panic situation.

The guy that won the Mid-West Open this year played with glasses for 20 years with Bridesmaid results. He changed to contacts and the rest, as they say, is history.

Check out Decot Hy-Wyd shooting glasses at http://www.sportglasses.com/ They sit high on the face and a lot of players swear by them, as the frames don't get in your line of sight. I got a similar type of oversize frame made by Safilo from my optometrist years ago and have used them ever since.

If I ever get use to the Glasses I might be Dangerous. I You coming for the one-pocket challenge on Dec 13? Later Carlton

This is what I do. I got daily contacts that I had my optomitrist prescribe strictly for the table. For objects that need to be seen at a distance of four to 15 feet. Actually what he did was keep the right eye perfect and lessen the left. It amazingly offers you a great vision for the playing field. Its a bit pricey but if you play everyday like me it is worth it. When you get my age you need all kinds of visual aids. I got bi-focals, a set for reading, a set for computers, etc. Contacts are the best since it affords you to see the whole table and dont get fogged up with steam. And if you are a lousey cleaner like me the daily ones are great. Also fight for changes in smoking laws like we did and smoke in the eyes are a thing of the past. These new set of eyes are making me competitive with the young guys in their 20's who still got their peepers.

I wear glasses most all of the time except for two occasions - playing golf and pool.

I wear Focus Dailies contact lenses(1.5X left eye & 1.25X) right eye) & they help me immensely. They are very comfortable & at times I forget I am even wearing em.

I tried playing the other night with my glasses and it just didn't work. Seeing the frames is a pain in the butt & at times with subtle eye movements my field of vision exits the corrective lenses & that in itself is a nightmare.

I've also tried playing without any correction. My eye doctor said I could simply because my eyes aren't that bad, but I like the definition I get with correction. Playing on a bar box wasn't too bad, but my nearsightedness really kicks in on a 9 ft table.

I just remember to bring some extra lenses along with me in my cue case & use the re-wetting drops often cuz of the smoke, things run fairly smooth from there.

I had my opt[ eye doc} fix me a pair from 0=9ft. he ordered balsom lon skeet shooting frames then put in my correct lens works great.$150 bucks. STICK

I just personally have glassess that are the largest frames available at the optometrist where I bought them and I wear them full time their not just for pool. However, a friend of mine has a pair of Zeiss Scopz which are shooting glasses (firearms that is) they are real good for pool and have and adjustable nose piece, check them out at http://www.rxshootingglasses.com/.

Also try going to shooting events like skeet shooting or target shooting. I'm told that vendors of various frames made for shooting are setup there. The other ones recommended to you (Dycot Hy-Wyd) are also shooting glasses.
Good luck.

Hi, everyone!

I'm new to this board. Actually, I've been reading your posts for a few months and have been very impressed with the knowledge and skill levels I see.

I used to practically live in a pool room when I was a teenager (I'm 49 now). Shot a pretty good stick. Went in the Navy at 17, shot a bit for a few years, then got married and had kids. Didn't play for more than 20 years. One reason was because of family obligations, but the other was that I started needing glasses around age 23, and it was a real pain shooting pool with glasses. Contacts back then weren't what they are today.

Anyway...about 2 yrs ago, I had Lasik surgery on my right eye. Only had one eye done because I'm near-sighted and would have had to wear glasses to read. By getting one eye corrected, I can see clearly at a distance out of that eye and read clearly out of my left eye.

I didn't try to shoot pool immediately, but when I did - WOW! - i felt like a kid again! With my strong right eye directly over my cuestick, I can see more clearly than I ever remember. Altho I had barely picked up a stick in over 20 yrs, I found myself able to run a 9-ball rack again almost immediately. So...if you're hassling with eyeglasses and/or contacts, check out Lasik surgery. Worked for me! (I think I might start playing more often now.)
