I can not find anything with the search function on this topic, although I feel as though I have read about it here before. So here are my questions.

1. What is the best type and brand of glue to use for tip replacement.

2. Do different type or makes of tips require different types of glue or epoxy?

Thanks for any help or opinions you can offer.

Search through the few post by Dennis Searing and read his method. There is no better...unless you can wait overnight and use Gorilla glue.
Either method will work on all leather tips.

When I do a search for Dennis Searing I get two threads, neither one include his method. Do you have a link to the thread by chance?

QUOTES FROM MR. SEARING:

I sand with fresh 320 grit, and I believe you want to sand it enough to reach the leather surface, which shouldn't take much to do. Then what you'll have is a surface that is inpregnated...

I found if you sand the bottom of the tip as you...

I found if you sand the bottom of the tip as you would before installing, then coat the bottom of the tip with your super glue, and let sit for a minute or so, and then wipe it off. After that, wait...

I aggree, Mr. Searing's method is a good one, and works very well. Only on very rare ocasion (maybe twice) have I used gorilla glue when all else fails, but It did work. As for any changes in feel though, I guess that could be a topic for discusion the same as fibre backers.:)

I change my own tips fairly frequently, and use Gorilla Glue all the time, unless I need to use the shaft immediately. You have to mask off the ferrule well, as it expands while curing, and leave it clamped overnight. I've yet to have a tip come loose. Big advantage I see is the ease of cutting the tip back off at replacement time, unlike the rock-hard super glues. As with any adhesive, anything more than a super-thin even coat is way too much. I do quite a few for guys in my group, and they all tolerate my "It'll be done tomorrow" process. Sure wouldn't work if you were doing "while you wait" jobs.

I use three kinds of glue when putting tips on.
1. If I am putting on snooker tips, its usually an elkmaster on a fibre ferrule with a tenon, I use Tweetens. Its a water based contact cement and it never gets as hard as instant glue.
2. If I am putting on most other tips, I use Loctite Instant Gel. Prior to putting it on the ferrule I use a Loctite primer.
3. If I am putting on Bunjee tips or Phenolic tips I use regular epoxy.
