Well I've been assigned to fixing house cues. I thought this would be a great opportunity to try out some different glues for tips. I usually use super glue for my cues mostly because it's cheap and easy. Just wanted everybody's opinions.
 
Unless it's my own stuff, which I send out, I also use a 2 part fast setting epoxy. Since I do it all by hand with no lathe, Willard tool, etc, the epoxy allows me to take my time and make sure the tip is centered as closely as possible before it starts to set up.

House cues? Tweeten's is really cheap and works for standard Elkmaster installation on a regular ferrule. Tweeten's does not work on plastic ferrules, however. For that, you will need two part epoxy or cyanoacrylic (super glue).
 
cianacrylic superglue works fine.
I've heard Tweeten did not stick well for some people and their tips went off. Never tried it myself though, since the glue I've been using while retipping my cues has never let me down.
 
Another vote for the 3M Loctite gel glue.

I have a Willard's Classic tipper/trimmer and have tipped well over 3000 cues in the twenty years I've owned it and it has NEVER failed me yet!!! When I tip a cue, I guarantee the tip will NEVER come off...and I have never had to put on a free tip.
 
i use Hot Stuff Special T industrial cyanoacrylate with an accelerant. it's gap filling, holds great and sets super fast with the accelerant. seyberts pointed me to this, they said of all the glues they tried this worked the best and they use it for all their tips
 
The glue I use is specific to the type of ferrule material. For porous materials, such as linen based, I use 2 part epoxy. Any plastic ferrules, I use a high viscosity super glue. I use gel CA on phenolic tips.

I've been working on cues installing tips for years and I use Loctite Super Glue GEL and it works great for me with no problems. I try to be sure that the temperature is not too cool in the winter months when I use it and that's the only precaution I can think of. There are other options like Loctite 454, but the Super Glue Gel is inexpensive and it works!

As a related question: Would most house cues be using PVC ferrules? :confused: Surely that would be a big factor as to which glue works best.
 
Most older Valley and Dufferin house cues had a fibre ferrule. Today, I see them with different types of plastics. Just make sure to scuff the face of the ferrule and the tip so the glue can take a bite.
