glued weight bolt removal...need help

Hello,

I have recently picked up in trade a nice custom cue which happens to have a definite click upon impact, due to a loose weight bolt... which is glued with some sort of brown epoxy or possibly urethane type of glue completely covering the the allen head and some of the threads above the bolt... I do not have access to a bolt heater, which I thought could possibly melt the glue...

I would like to attempt the repair myself rather than send it back to the maker...

any suggestions?

regards,

I use a soldering iron to slowly heat the bolt. It may take a while but it gives you good control of the heat. I hold my hand around the outside of the cue about where the bolt is to ensure it doesn't get too hot. Once the outside starts warming up you can start trying to break the bolt loose.

Exactly Right, this is what I have done in the past myself in my cue shop. Another thing you can do, once the adhesive has melted is center drill the allen head screw and use an easy out.
