going into someone elses work

hey guys....i'm sure i already know the boards answer.....and honestly i'm comfortable doing the actual work either way.....but i'm sure after i explain yall will understand why i dont want to do it in a particular way......

a friend has a custom from a well known maker.....wants me to add extension.....

no problem.....well he wants the kind where i cut the buttsleeve off and install it inside the cue like some have seen on SW and a few others.....no worries....

well the maker is pretty well known, and its not a 10k cue.....but close to a g....that doesn't even matter to me tho.....

i'm very big into antique restoration and such and it just makes me cringe going into someone elses work like this even if I did the work beyond perfect and you guys nicknamed me searing........i just dont feel like its my right to do that just because i'm getting paid

so i ask my brain trust of their opinion so when i move forward and either do the work, or just drop an insert in and change the bumper to accept an extension sort of like how the snooker style ones that go over bumper and thread in........

the latter is what i'm sitting on now......pretty much is my decision but would like to hear everyones answer...even if i already know what it is.....

so that way when he *****es and moans, i can have him read the responces and if he still dont like it he can go somewhere else and get someone else to do it.

Sounds like the Phillips extender. I've had people ask me to install them and even though I was one of the first to install them in my cues back in the 90's. My answer today is NO. I no longer offer it and outside of the 2 cuetecs I installed them in. I will not cut a cue to install it. If you twist the rod it's a real pain. It changes the hit of the cue and the weight. Installing it is I think 5 inches up into the handle and like 1 3/8 into the butt sleeve. If you can't make one to screw into the bottom of the cue. Predators version is very very good. People complain about the cost but it's a quality product and worth the cost.

Steve Dunkel has a wonderful extension set up that he sells
Check it out on Facebook

Steve Dunkel's set up is nice. I saw it in person at the Expo. I see nothing wrong with installing one if that is what the customer wants.

yea i will be building the extension like steve and others do, like you see on the snooker cues.....the customer wanted the kind that you chop the buttsleeve off and install the rod and such...they been around for long time but you dont see them much...webb said they call it the phillips....i had issues with this...and mike just reaffirmed my negative thoughts.....

typical extension....no worries...just needed someones thoughts on the phillips and yea i wont be doing that.....i can just see bad things happening to a cue possibly if you didn't insert some kind of phenolic or carbon tube on the I.D. of the handle for that rod.....could be a disaster if you dropped it to me, and would totally without doubt change the hit.
