I am visiting Manila in November for 2 weeks. I will also be going to General Santos and Boracay. Can anyone suggest any pool halls there? I am also interested in buying some inexpensive pool cues to bring back to the United States. Will I have any issues bringing the cues back through customs? Any suggestions please?

Thanks alot,
Richie

i think theres one or two pool hall in boracay(with only 1 table).. boracay is more of a party place at night

I have been to PI 3 times, Manila, Boracay, Angeles City, Baggio, and many points in between. While I am not a Filipino, I am married to a Filipina and honestly, I wouldn't bother with bringing any cues back unless they are older well seasoned cues made by one of the small handful of professional makers. The dime a dozen cues with all the inlays will likely warp on you in the states because they are made from wet woods that will dry and warp over the months after they get beck here. There, the humidity is so high, they really never dry. I know, because I did it. I think you might have a better shot at selling used Meucci, Joss, and McDermotts to local semi-pros at the tournaments than the other way around. Of course it just my opinion, but that is what I would try. Hit the pawn shops here, collect some decent low enders for jack, and give it a shot. Besides, that would open the door for you to meet a lot of nice people there in the process. Boracay is a really nice small slow resort with lots of scuba, good cheap food, and nice beaches. Forget the pool action there and enjoy the island.

feel free to PM me if you need some advice if it is your first time to PI. You do have to be careful and know how the do's and don'ts for getting around as with any foreign country. I love the Philippines.

What kind of cues are you looking for, decals, inlaids? If you're looking for decals, cue bags, & even genuine pool accessories such as aramith balls, there's a place to go in the China Town area in Manila. If you're looking for inlaid cues, there's LINDS in Quezon City, HADJ, JAZZ, etc.. Linds David posts here also. The only problem you'll encounter is not the customs here but the customs in the US if you try to bring in cues w/ ivory

Suggested Pool Halls:

PAENG'S EASTWOOD BOWL, Eastwood City, Libis, Quezon City- If you want a more private pool hall wherein no one will try to play for your money. It's operated by Puyat Sports, the stable of Efren Reyes, Bustamante, and Guinness Book of World Records title holder for bowling, Paeng Nepomuceno. Very classy ambiance. The tables are AMF-Grand Prix with Simonis cloth (these are the ones usually used by Puyat Sports for big tournaments such as San Miguel Asian 9 Ball Tour. It's not advisable to go there on Friday & Saturday nights though as they have disco bowling around 10pm. This is where my friend and I practice often.

Game rate: PHP200-250/hr approx $4.4-5.6/hr

SIDESPIN aka FERRULE, Libis, Quezon City- a few blocks away from Paeng Eastwood BOwl is this small pool hall & bar place where many of the Easy Pool Tutor Philippines members play every MWF. These guys are pool aficionados & cue collectors as well. If you wanna play a more serious game even without money games, this is a place to go. The regulars there will also take care of you. Just visit them here: http://www.easypooltutor.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=index
Game Rate: PhP130/hr

PUYAT SPORTS Farmer's Plaza, Cubao, Quezon City-A few meters away from the venue of the 2007 WPC is this breeding ground for pool sharks. If you wanna see some action. This is one of the places to go to

Game Rate: PhP180/hr

ONE SIDE BILLIARDS, Malate, Manila City- this is where the real action is. Big bets, though players. If you're ready to lose some bucks from the great players, this is the place to go. You might even get to play with the PRO's and even with the boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao

Game Rate: PhP300/hr
