Gold Crown 1

Drove about 45 minutes yesterday responding to an ad on social media for a “Brunswick Snicker Table”. He was being stored in a loft in the guys grandma’s shop building. Literally had to climb a ladder to get on a cabinet, then jump from cabinet up to loft. Said it had been up there for over 10 years. Maybe should have passed on it, but I just couldn’t leave it behind. It’s got ashtrays in two of the pockets, one for each end. Missing the plastic apron skirts that hide the pockets. Wood backing is missing off the brunstone, I’m assuming it’s not slate. Also, looks like a corner was broke off and fixed. Fix looks ok to me, it’s smooth and straight.

The grandson said he set it up in his house but was too big for his room. I’m assuming he’s the one that painted it black.

Lol! There might be a pool table under there.

Thinking about switching it to the leveling feet. Think it’s worth it? Or leave it original? Did the non-leveling feet hold up?

do the leveling feet, you can get so much done with them vs having to shim so much. you have it all apart. You will be happy you did.
It is pretty rough and I probably should have walked away, but gold crowns don’t pop up very often within driving distance.
you got this! Take your time and you will be happy you bought it.

Thank you for the encouragement!

Few things on the table.
1) non-adjustable feet
2) big score counters
3) ashtray corners
4) no figure eight mounting?
5) Looks like one piece could be slate and the other two brunstone?

Seems I read somewhere that the brunstone was cut at an angle at the pockets and slate was cut straight. I’m thinking end piece is slate and other two are brunstone.

Let me know if you're ever interested in selling those ashtray corners please, I might be interested.
Honestly that’s the main reason I bought the table. Always thought the ashtray pockets captured the old bar room look and didnt know if I would find another set on a table. However, if I decide to part with them, I’ll let you know.

I completely understand. So sure, if you change your mind, please let me know.

Got a question about the Gold Crown pocket castings. When did they switch from heavy cast pocket castings to a thinner pot metal cast?
The pool table I just purchased has a mix of pocket castings:
1-corner heavy cast
1-middle heavy cast
1-lighter metal corner (same material as ashtray corners)
1-lighter metal middle (same material as ashtray corners)
2-ashtray corners.

From what Ive read the ashtray corners were only an option on the Gold Crown 1. If so, why didnt they make them out of the same material as the heavy cast? Or maybe the heavier cast pocket castings came later and the thinner metal castings were first? Ive got so many questions i think due to my table having so many different parts probably swapped around.
