Gold Crown 2 Counters - how to remove

I am looking to remove the counters on my Gold Crown 2 and either clean them or replace them.

They do turn but are very stiff, they don't seem to be worn bad.

Any help would be appreciated.

From the photo of these counters being sold on ebay, it looks like they were screwed in from underneath and the screw holes appear to be damaged. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brunswick-Gold-Crown-Rail-Ball-Counter-/262552109497

Is there something specific to be able to clean and get them to work smoother? Or do they just need to be replaced?

Brunswick don't make them anymore, and neither does anyone else. Only thing available is used, check with Ken Hash @ classic billiards in MD.
