Gold Crown 6

Don’t think the V, or VI have any castings like the I through IV. It looks like Stainless to me, so don’t think you would see pitting in brushed stainless steel.

They are not stainless. They are cast aluminum and then brushed and coated with a special clear coating of sorts.

Looking at a 6 today. Interested in the fit and finish.

The finish is very cool. The fit, takes a little work if you want the castings to sit as low as possible. Lowest placket profile out there. It really is a gorgeous table. I didn’t like the 6 when I saw it but it’s growing on me a little.

Yea not a fan of the matte black either. I personally like the shinny finish of the earlier GC’s Formica.

The Formica tops remind me of cheap pergo floors, just another fake wood look. My old matte black GC4 with nickel trim was sharp looking and doesn’t pretend to be wood. I looked at a floor model GC6 in New Orleans and the fit was horrible. I played on a GC5 at Griffs a couple of years ago and it played good but I prefer tighter pockets that you can’t get from Brunswick.

Sounds like you should be in the pinball forum. I hear the diamond tables are loved by pinball players

Yes... You should have kept the 4. Sorry I did not know you then. Friends don't let friends part with their 4's.

Tournament additions from Brunswick are 4 1/2 pockets. Same as Diamond. Differences are the springy cushions on a Diamond and deeper shelves. Some like and some hate. I personally don’t care for either the look or the play of a Diamond. Playing on a Diamond guarantees you will change the way you hit balls because of the speed off the rails. Diamond altered a 100 year tradition of how tables should play. Watch current pro tournaments on Diamond’s? It’s become a poke stroke game. Always trying to kill the cue ball. Sad actually to see.

Aside from how the tables play a player will adjust. I agree with the Diamond appearance. Eh. But I’m liking it more and more for various reasons. Talking about “The Professional”. Our club house has ProAm’s and they are fun to play on. The GoldCrown6 really disappoints me appearance wise close up. I’d buy a new 5 if available.

Did you contact any dealers to see if they have any new 5’s left? The 6’s have only been out a year or so, maybe you will get lucky and find a new 5.

I did not. And I thought they might be a few years old...the rubber has been sitting. Learning toward a Diamond Pro for now but will ask about 5's.

The Tournament edition is an Extra $1000. Heck, for only $500 extra your Diamond can have 4 1/8 or 4 1/4 corners. I personally didn’t notice much difference banking on my GC4 vs the Blue label. The red labels are horrible and I’d never buy one of those POS tables unless I put a blue top on it, so I’d say you half right😁

I can answer this; I was in the market for a Gold Crown late 2019, stalked the Brunswick website for months beforehand. Brunswick had the 5 TE and 6 listed, and the 5 was about a grand less.

I inquired with my local Brunswick dealer and they weren’t certain the 5 was still available from the warehouse. After checking with BW they told me there was 1 left. I bought it, and since then the 5 doesn’t show on the Brunswick website.

Now I can’t say that was the last new 5 ever, maybe some dealer around the country still has one, but whenever I tried to contact an out of town/state dealer for information and pricing in new tables, they all referred me to my local dealer.

Great discussion. About time someone give the Gold Crown V some love. I think someday it will become a collector table unless it already has.

Saw a matte black 6 today. Do not like it. The top castings look ok but the Shields look ridiculous. Would definitely take a 5 over a 6.
Are you talking about the spade shaped part below the pocket? Is that not part of the pocket casting and does it not fit flush to the side/corner of the table??

Yes. The spades. Take them away and we have a table. It's personally taste and was not sure but to see them up close...the 6 is not for me. And the matte looks like crap. The table looks like a Fisher table from the 70’s
