Gold Crown Ball Box

Hey everyone, I have a Gold Crown II, the cork mat in the ball box is deteriorating and I am getting small pieces on the cloth when I pull the balls out of the ball box. What do you guys replace that stuff with that is readily available? I could use indoor/outdoor carpeting but I think it would be too thick, my hands already have limited extra space in there. I would like to use a piece of rubber but it will probably turn into an availability issue, like I have to buy a 4' x 8' sheet just to use 16" x 8" or something like that. I am open to ideas for something that will look decent, wont fall apart like the problem I have now, and something that will not mark up the balls, thanks.

I've got some commercial grade EPMD rubber roofing that I use for this.
I'll send you some, all you'll have to do is cover the shipping to you.
Merry Xmas'

Hi,

When I restored my Anniversary many years ago, the ball box was lined with cork and looked worn.

Instead of removing the old cork I relined the bottom and sides with 1/16" cork held in place with double back tape.

I notice the same thing, small bits of cork on the cloth from the balls in the ball box return.

If I had to do it over again I would use wool felt held in place with double back carpet tape.

Found this web site, it looks like it comes in different thickness, color and size. http://www.thefeltcompany.com

Good luck.

It can be done so many ways... But I suggest not using wool, carpet or felt because it holds dirt and is not easy to clean causing the balls to track dirt on the table and not to mention dirty balls...

12" x 12" Cork Squares

I used 12" x 12" cork squares which are sold in a package to glue to a wall for a cork board. They are ~1/8" thick.

cork preserve

I used poly urethane, 3 coats on my Anniversary ball return box. It has held up well after at least 40 hours of play. The urethane sealed the cork without making it hard.
