Gold Crown II and DJ Billiards

I bought a used 9' Brunswick Gold Crown II table from Don Jennings and his brother Doug, and wanted to let everyone know that they did a fantastic job of restoring and installing the table. There are some finished pictures below.

I'm pretty sure they will set one up anyway that you want, but I chose Brunswick Superspeed cushions, Simonis 860 HR cloth, and subrail extension to tighten up the pockets.

This table plays fantastic! Not sure how far Don and Doug will travel, (I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area) but if you want a great table from a couple of great table mechanics, I highly recommend Don and Doug. They did exactly what they said they would do on time, the first time.

You can reach Don at 214-207-8410 or don@djbilliards.com

Thanks.

Not sure why anyone would buy a new table (unless it was a GC5 and you could afford it) when you can have one of these.

When I took those pictures I was actually wondering how much money changed hands over this one...

Thanks for the post. It was nice to meet and do business with you. But I have to give you credit for the polishing of the corners/trim/feet. I have had some professionally polished that do not look as good as the job you did.
Glad you like the table.

Don

Great looking table.Enjoy
Looks close in the picture.
Is there enough room to play in the corner with the bookcase and cabinet?
It looks like they put it up some stairs for you also. Nice Job

I posted this a while back and somehow lost track of it...

Thanks for all the replies. The room is 19' X 15' so it is just right.

After 6 months of playing on the table it is still perfectly level and seems to play better and better.

Or maybe that's just me getting better...

Beautiful table and sounds like you're enjoying every minute of play on it. Thanks for the post.

Glad to hear you are still enjoying the table. I love the older GC's they are classics that play and look great.

Don

That looks like a new table. I was looking at some GC and they are all beat up. if I bought one I'd re-finish the wood and polish the metal too.

Could you post a pic of the Brunswick label that is on top of the headrail?
There has been some discussion in my threads as to whether the tables I have been looking at are GC I or GC II's. I think tables I have been looking at are 2 GC I's and 1 GC II. They had different labels on the headrail.
Two of them were clear plastic and one of them was medal.

Thank

Rich

Rich,

This table was pretty beat up as well, but Don and Doug did a fantastic job restoring it.

They let me do the aluminum and I decided on the high-polish route. Before/after picture below. The rails were just as bad, but if you think about it, most of these tables spent the first 30+ years in a pool hall or bar.

I think the main difference between the GCI and II is the GCIs were all painted, and the IIs were stained. Other than that, I think they are basically the same table.

GCIs were made from 1961 - 1974 and the IIs from 1974 - 1976. You can contact Brunswick and they will send information to you; that’s how I got it.

Here is the picture of the headrail label and the one that is on a GCII cue rack that I was lucky enough to find at Classic Billiards.

They are both metal.

Thanks for the pic. That's a great job on the polish job.
One of the tables had a label like that, two of the tables have a label I'll put in this post below. None of the tables were painted though, but one was stained darker, and it wasn't a very a good job. Looks like it was refinished a long time ago. From what someone said the tables with these plastic labels are GC I's, but they don't have all the GC I attributes.

Don Jennings at DJBilliards is pretty knowledgeable on these tables, you might want to see what he thinks.

From your photo and my limited knowledge, I think it is a GCII. Do you have more pictures?

Also, from what Don told me, Brunswick mixed and matched parts between years, so not all the tables will be exactly the same.

The only pics I have are these pics from a thread that I posted before, these are the pics that the guy took before he took them a part.

Pretty sure they are GCIIs. I think the I/IIs are the most desirable so it looks like you may have a nice find there.

Thanks guys, I've just been waiting for the guy to come down on his price,
but he hasn't budged, and he didn't email me back today.
He posted $1,500 each awhile ago, then he went to $1,200. I tried to get him to go to $1,000 and he said no. I then came back with $1,100 and he hasn't got back with me. He is including extras like balls, one of those green 3 bulb lights, some decent stools, and he has some of your typical house cues too. I think he has cue wall mounts too, which I probably won't use.
I haven't seen any decent tables for sale around me so I might have to be the one that gives in on the bargaining.

Also, someone on eBay claims his table is a GC I, but he emailed me a pic and it has a metal Brunswick plate too. I haven't seen anyone else with the plastic Brunswick labels yet.

You might be best to find a table mechanic in your area that specializes in Gold Crowns. Money well spent IMO.

Hey Spike8ball!
Did you just buff those castings on a "grinder" with a buffing wheel and compound paste?
What colors did you use in order?
Did you do any light sanding first?
How long did it take to do them?
They look just fantastic!
Also, I tried to contact Dj Billiards by phone and got no reply. Do you know what brand and color stain they used? That is a perfect match and the look I would like to achieve.
Thanks
