Gold Crown leg installation question

I have an old used Gold Crown that I'm trying to get somewhat installed. I went to screw in the feet but they were very wobbly. So I unscrewed everything and was just wondering how they are supposed to be installed. The collar part was the piece that was wiggling. The nail wasnt holding it tight. Is there another way of securing the collar instead of a new long nail?

P.S. can you look at these legs and tell what GC it is?

I usually use a screw instead of a nail. Try to rotate the threaded insert a half of a turn to get into some new wood. The main purpose of that screw or nail in your case is to keep the insert from rotating. Once the legs are all together and the stretcher is in between the legs and bolted tight, the wobble really goes away.

From the looks of the leg it looks like a GC2

Exactly what I did...rotated half a turn and used a screw. Once I saw this problem on one leg, I went back and switched out the nails for screws on the other legs and tightened everything up.

So the screw is the only way needed to secure the collar? The collar sits in the wood part very loosely.
