Aloha all,

Came a cross a seller and he informed me that his gold crown has dowels in the slates that are oriented the length of the playing area so as to put them together perfectly. I didn't think slates were manufactured in this manner especially from Brunswick. Is this correct or an after market snafu?

Mahalo again to all who contribute to make this forum a great asset,

Carl

They came that way. If you move it yourself do not lift straight up. Pull towards the end.

Aloha Jay,

whats the diff between pinned and doweled?

Carl

Carl,

Pinned and doweled refers to the hollow inserts that the Pins (male) insert go into on the adjacent slate. The hollow dowel that receives the solid pin helps to reinforce the slate where it's been drilled. The 4 pins and dowels on each slate seam held the two surfaces flush and eliminated the need for center screws on the slate.

Nowadays we use "liquid dowels" to hold the surfaces flush. Most manufactures have done away with "PINNING" the slate due to additional cost and handling.

Many Mahalos Jay,

I always thought the eges of the slates were brought flush together and reinforced when the rails were added.

How do I tell if it is slate, brunstone, or bluestone?

Brunswick slate is grey in color, can be light to almost black in color. The Brunstone is light brown to tan in color and has a sandy finish and appearance.
