Gold Crown time capsule - part 2

Yep seen them, $325 shipped is pretty high for four chairs. I would have got them, but he didn't have the inserts for the ash trays. $600 for three complete sets is what I could have gotten them for. He had three different styles.

I appreciate your continued opinion on how much I pay for stuff. Have a great day.

Last week there was an ebay posting for GC2's. I saw pictures of the gold colored spectator chairs in the background. I contacted the seller and although they were not mint condition, he was willing to sell them. I just had him ship me the fiberglass seat pieces as the bases were very beat up and I have 4 mint bases. As you can see from the first picture, they were in rough shape from 40+ years of use. Cigarette burns, old chewing gum and all. I wet sanded and used some penetrol to restore the fiberglass. Turned out pretty good. Now I have 4 bases and 8 seats, 4 in blue and 4 in gold. Not sure what the heck I will do with them all... lol

Nice!

I know how much because the owner of the chairs said as much when I inquired about them. You posted about them, and so did I. If you didn't notice I also stated how much I could have spent as well?

Didn't know it was a big deal?

I'm up front about what I find, pay or sell for. Nothing to hide like its a big secret on my end. I also don't try to screw people over if I get a good deal. I may make a few bucks off it, and pass it on most the time I pass it on for what I got it for if I don't need as many as I find.. I don't try to screw the next guy when he enjoys the same things as I do.

Funny thing is I almost showed them to you like I did the other Brunswick items I found, and passed along to you.

Like I said to you before when you tried to sell 1 set of chairs to me for 800 to 1000 when you paid less then 200 per set. Sorry I know what you paid.

People here watch out for others all the time, and state what an item sold for. I guess me knowning makes me????

Sorry you got upset at me when I told you No way on your outlandish price. That told me a lot about the person you are. The prices are a known fact not an opinion by the way.

1. I purchased some chairs with no intentions to sell nor did I ever list them for sale.
2. You and a handful of members inquired about buying them.
3. I told everyone that I would be willing to sell 1 set but would want top dollar and feel free to make offer.
4. I did not accept any offers But was upfront with what I paid.
5. I purchased more chairs that I also don't want to sell.

The end.

1. True to a point. You would sell if some moron offered you 5 times more than you paid. You did turn down an offer for 4 times more after all.
2. Have no idea if true.
3.Not true you said you had an offer for $800, and turned it down I still doubt that. I said you should have taken it and ran. You didn't pay that much for the entire lot.
My Dad had a saying. He was a fool to offer that much, and you where a fool for not taking it.
4. Not true. I told you I knew how much you paid then you said you turned down $800. There was no need to offer a fair price to an unfair seller. You are just trying to hook a sucker.
5. Good for you.

Awesome table and accessories! Now you just need a vintage cue to go with the vintage set up! What are you playing with these days?

Thank you sir,

Still playing with the full splice James white and a tascarella. Hope all is well with you.

finished up a set of chairs, did some painting/decorating inspired by the brunswick youtube video and got a wall rack hung, filled with challanger cues.

Awesome, now all you need is for the cast of Mad Men in their period correct clothes to come over and you are set:)

Looks great buddy!!! Hope you're finding time to get that new cloth broke in?

Yes Sir, Cloth is broke in and table plays fantastic.

I thought I was going to be giving up some playability going from the Diamond to the gold crown, but I am beginning to think I have just played on poorly setup GC's my whole life. lol. This table is just as fast, plays very consistent etc.

Diamond will be selling less tables if they keep letting you top mechanics install other tables "properly". :)

Looks great!!!!! What a cool looking pool room you have!!! Just need a Hoppe Titlist to go in your cue rack now. Are your 1 piece cues correct for the time period? The Brunswick cues that came with my GCII do not have the black sticker at the bottom like yours. They say Brunswick at the bottom on 1 side and true balance on the other side. They are also not quite as dark as yours. They are marked "H M and L" and have black ferrules.

Yes All are correct for the period. I have the original sales brochure and brunswick sold a few tiers of house cues. the challenger were the cheapest, then your tru-balance being one step up and finally titlist being the premier.

The challenger cues are actually 100% maple, the points are not real, its just dark brown paint.

I would love to fill the rack with all Titlist cues. :)

Unfortunately, the Mechanics are few and far between and there are even fewer that know how to do things the right way. I was lucky to have had the proper training because it makes a world of difference!

Sadly, most guys don't get that opportunity or maybe they just don't give a damn how the tables play

The last project is the light. I bought a GC4 light from Rick in Chicago and am converting it to a GC1 light. :) First step is the retro light badge. (Thanks again for the photoshop help on the logo)

This is the best Retro look back at the Gold Crown experience I've seen yet. Congrats to you on your fine work and capturing the essence of what we experienced as youngsters. I don't know if people understand the fine craftsmanship that went into the design of the GC and how even today everything comes together so nicely. The bolts never strip out and perhaps the only flaws that exist is the Ball Return Box (gulley) does wear out after removal and reattachment over time. Lastly the sound that you hear when the ball strikes the back of the pocket cannot be replicated. Its like heaven. All you need to complete your "CAVE" is the Brunswick two piece leather wrap Titilist Willie Hoppe cue.

I had SW color match the gold color and wanted to share the paint codes.

The small piece is the original, from the table, the larger piece I just painted with the SW color matched paint.

Looks awesome!!

Had a thought about the chairs. You might want to put some protection on the foot rests. Something like on the photo attached...

Just a thought so the wood doesn't get damaged..

Cheers

Although its not as protective as the metal in the pictures, the foot rests actually have a piece of brown plastic on the top edge of the wood.
