What is the best gold crown,always heard gc 4 was the best,if so why and how can you tell if its a 4?,, any feed back would be helpful,,thxs

The gold crown 4 has Brunswick logo on the face of the corner castings.
Although the GC3 and GC4 was offered in black, the GC3 was offered in rosewood and the GC4 was offered in mahogany.

4 does not have counters on the foot rail. As far as the best that is questionable. I do like my 4 but had some rail/pocket work done. If you should come across a GC let your installer look at it first. Seek out a highly qualified experienced installer. Installation is everything.
 
Welcome to AzB. I found a great table tech on the forum. Also connected with an instructor., cue lathe supplier and more.

The GC 4&5 have the flush rubber pocket top
 
Are availability of GC4's very few?

I wouldn't mind one if I can find one that is GTG for around 3500, but will probably have to pull the trigger on a Diamond.
 
Hey Money , welcome to AZB! I've played the most on GC 3's with GC 2's a close second. Loved how boy played and could not really pick a fav. One thing I will say though is, while I've played on many of dozens ( really if not 100's of GC 's ) and obviously there were many different mechanics that set them up / maintained them and I have to say all GC's seem to be extremely consistent on how they play ( and yes, I am a Brunswick over Diamond guy 😊 ) but my assessment is unbiased -!!!!
 
I like early GC's with adjustable legs all the way out. Also, the older tables had 3/4" plywood stretchers, I think those are better too. And the rails with the figure eight brackets are better than the the ones with 5 screw holes.

Great thing about the earlier tables is they can be mixed and matched.

I also believe the early solid cast aluminum pocket castings are better than later "pot metal" castings.

Of course what BmoreMoney mentioned, the way it plays is 100% based on who set it up..

Just my two cents...
 
The gc4 edge trim is also flush with the rail...whic allows the chalk to slide right off and onto the floor.

That bothers me...often.:angry:
 
The one that's in your basement is the best one. Mine's a 4 and when it was set up it looked mint. John Burns of Classic Billiards Service is the man in the NoVA/MD area. I bought mine from him and I'm very happy with it.

A friend of mine bought a furniture table from Costco. When John recovered it he found they installed the legs upside down. WTF?
