Hey guys I just purchased my first very own Gold Crown III 4.5x9. I am going tomorrow to disassemble and put into a climatic controlled storage. My question is what size wrenches; tools will I need to take with me. 1/2"; 9/16; flat screw drivers; phillips etc. Any information on this would be GREATLY appreciated. I though I would mark the slates as they are removed, do I need to mark any other piece?

Thanks In Advance.

The only "tool" you need is a good table mechanic. ;-)

But if you insist...A cordless drill/screwdriver will make things much easier, especially on the slate screws.

Hey guys, do the pockets in the GC3 still get put in with an allen wrench? I'd take a set with you in case. I know the GCI and II did, but it's been a while since I've worked on a III

Rail bolts should be a 9/16". Can't remember if the blinds on the GC3 go on with a 1/2" bolt, so I'd take a 1/2" socket also. Corner castings should go on with a 9/16" socket as well. You can mark the rails 1-6 if you'd like, although they should be interchangeable with the opposite rail.

Once you get the rails and blinds off, a staple puller could be a VERY big help if the cloth isn't glued on. Pull any staples out first if you plan on salvaging the cloth to re-use later. Will also save a mechanic some time on the setup end. (Are you catching the hint that you should use a qualified mechanic? LOL)

Slate screws come out next. I've seen some flat and some phillips, so take both. Also take a Sharpie with you to mark the slates before you unscrew them so you can put them back the same way. Mark the frame as well once you get the slate off so it goes back in the same order. Oh, and PLEASE don't try to take the wood backing off the slate. We HATE trying to set one back up when someone's done that.

Then the frame comes off the legs. If I remember right, the legs get bolted on with a 5/8" bolt? My memory is terrible though. That's one reason I like to carry an adjustable wrench with me. ;-)

Good luck with the table. How long are you storing it? By the way, you do know to store the slate upright so it doesn't warp, right?

Let us know how it goes!

Yes the pockets on the GC3 still have the allen wrench. The ball holder bolts are a different size than anything else as well, bring a socket set with a 6" or 8" extension.

You should first

1. remove pockets allen screw around 3\16 size sometimes smaller and label your pockets head rail right side, foot rail left side, etc.

2 remove 18 rail bolts 9\16 socket one is hard to get to inside the ball box.

3 remove the rails with the blinds flip it over label all the rails and blinds unbolt the rest.

4 remove the cloth from the bed label the slates head, foot.

5 remove end slates and make the frame next to the middle salte to line it up again on reassembly. mark the frame ends head and foot.

6 make sure there are no staples under the slate when you load them up so they dont scratch the surface of the slate.

7 unbolt the frame 3\4" socket or open end wrench, seperate the frame top from the legs.

8 with some help use the same wrench to seperate the stretcher bar between the legs.

have fun on reassembly need a hand give me a shout.

can this thread, or a similar thread if one exists with better information, be marked as a sticky? It didn't take super long to find, but I did have to go through a couple of other threads, and the reading gets interesting, and before I knew it I blew almost 2 hours trying to find this info :) If a sticky can't be made for basic (or model specific) disassembly... well, enjoy the super old thread everyone!
