The Philippines is still lucky to have 2 of its young guns, Roberto Gomez and Joven Bustamante in this bracket. Who would have thought before this WPC started that Reyes, Manalo, Orcullo, Corteza, Luat, etc will all be out and these 2 unknown players are still standing. Joven just beat Chia Ching Wu and Gomez beat Chao 10 to 2. Gomez has also beaten Neils Feijen, Alex Lely (10 to 1) and now Chao.
Even if these 2 do not win any games anymore, they have already made a name for themselves. Hope to see both, including Jeff De Luna in the US next year.
I believe making it to the round of 16 means an automatic invite to next year's tourney.
Reyes never looked like himself this year- he's getting a bit older, and he just can't play the way he used to (though the flashes of absolute brilliance always make him worth watching).
The Philippines is a very nurturing environment for pool- there will always be great young players coming out of there.

No, I meant I hope to see these 3 young Filipinos here in the US next year, not in the WPC.It is quite funny that the younger TPE players were getting all the hype earlier in the tournament but nobody really expected Joven and Roberto to be where they are right now.

My bad- I missed that.
That might be a tough trip for them to make without decent sponsorship- the 100K check for winning the tourney would be a bit of a help, though.

Don't worry. They will have no problem gettting sponsors (Puyat or Bugsys). The problem will be how to get US visas.
Truth be told, Nick Van Den Berg is a very nice gentleman. I have seen him at a few tournaments, and he always carries himself in a dignified manner.
Funny thing, we saw him on PokerStars at the beginning of this year, and he and Keith began to LIVE CHAT. He said he wasn't playing pool much, because it was too expensive. Keith at that time had just won a few poker tournaments online, and he said he'd sponsor Nick next time he comes to the States. Boy, what a difference a year makes!

Do you mean Keith McCready? We get a lot of pool here in Thailand, and I watch pretty much everything (even snooker)- I believe I've seen Keith McCready play twice- that guy is really entertaining and has loads of fun at the table- definitely a crowd pleaser.
