Apart from the ones we all know like
Rags
Off the rail
Louis Roberts
Cotton
Titanic
Etc.

Are there any other books you have read that you like where maybe pool isn't the main factor, but it discusses pool?

There are a couple of old AZB threads with book lists. In addition to the ones you already listed here are some greats:

  • Hustlers, Beats, and Others, Ned Polsky. Cult classic on deeper psychology of degenerates
  • Running the Table: The Legend of Kid Delicious, the Last Great American Pool Hustler
  • Cornbread Red: Pool's Greatest Money Player
  • Pool Wars 1 & 2, Jay Helfert

I used to love going into Gamblers Book Store in Vegas 30 years ago. I got some cool books there. Not sure what happened to all of them. I love books. I’m a slow reader, but enjoy them.

I have one book. Let me go up and take a pic. I’ll post it here.

Was published in 63 with a few re-prints.

The concept of the book is providing imperfect information to your opponent.

I discovered this book in 85 or 86. It was very useful for me in life. It’s a short read but is pretty deep in its real life application.

My bags always cost more when coming back from there. I would not blow anything at the casino and get a ton of books, especially if I was there for a week.

Exactly. I’d rather blow $500 on books than $50 in a casino. I don’t give casinos any action at all.

I’ve gambled since I was 16, but I don’t lay juice or play casino games. I bet on pool with no vig, used to bet football in the 80’s in the pool room with guys-no vig. Bet 10 to win 10. Never bet 11 to win 10, that’s a suckers game.

I’ve studied gambling and what motivates people to gamble. Some people it’s greed, some it’s for the rush, others to escape from their daily life’s.

I’ve learned how to exploit gamblers and separate them from their $. Of course I’ve lost my fair share. But if I was told to never make another bet. I’m ok with that. I’ve never had an addiction to gambling. The art of winning is what I find attractive about gambling in all forms. I’m not a locksmith either, that’s too nitty and boring. Variance is part of life. I can’t stand poker (playing) watching poker is cool.

FATBOY - John & Edna Luckman's Gambler's Book Shop/Gambler's Book Club and GBC Press still operates online; but, the old free standing brick & mortar store at 630 S.11th St, which had been there since the mid-60s was combined with a competing business, Gambler's General Store, at 727 S Main St, Las Vegas, which now handles GBS/GBC's retail B&M trade along with Gambler's General Store merchandise - which was mostly souvenir, trinket, novelty type goods for the tourist-trade - and now, combined with GBS/GBC's more serious/hard-core gambling supplies, equipment, and books, it's more like a Gambler's Super Center with merchandise from both businesses combined into one. So, not gone; but, definitely not the same as back in the day when John & Edna had their own store and print-shop catering to serious Gamblers. - GJ

The store on Main Street was just north of my catalog biz in the late 90’s to 2000’s. I used to go in there sometimes. Once to buy my friend a slot machine for hiss house in Ca(I was a Nv resident so I could buy it).

There was another gamblers book store on Charleston across the street from the FBI building just east of the Strip. What was that called? I can’t recall

Thx for the post. I mite bounce by there this week-going to town tmr morning. I haven’t been in a while.

The only other place I used to go to was SPINETTI'S Gambling Supplies; but, that was only because they had a HUGE selection of collectible Cheques/Chips and Dice from closed casinos from all over the place, and going way way back. Spinetti's also sold books and equipment too; but all my trade for that was spent at GBS/GBC.

Spinetti's is located very close - about a block or two away - from where Gambler's General Store is. Is that the place you mean? - GJ
