Good looking playing cue around $150?

I'm looking for a new cue. Have a McDermott genesis that needs repair, but want another cue to play with while its out. My budget is about $150. I've looked at a couple nice looking Omega cues at billiardswarehouse.com, heard a little about them but not lately. Billiards.com has a Valhalla that I like and a bushka style Vector that I kinda like. I haven't heard anything good or bad about either brand. Valhalla has a lifetime warranty though. Any other recommendations are welcome. Looking for something more traditional with "leather" or linen wrap and nice looking points/veneers. Overlays don't bother me, as long as they look good and play well. Thanks guys.

I'd think that an Action cue is worth consideration, they are inexpensive but play well.

Honestly, finding a leather wrap from a major US manufacturer is going to be impossible for $150 unless its used. I'd be a bit worried about a new cue with leather wrap less than that.
 
I've looked at action, just never heard much about them. As far as leather, its in quotes for a reason, lol. I've seen some fake leather wrap cues for around that price. I like the look and feel of leather/faux leather. I like linen as well. Just not a fan of wrapless.

Yeah, I have a hard time with wrapless too.

for a reference on the Action line, about half of the staff of Robertson's Billiards here in Tampa use $100 action cues as their player when they go out, even though they own much higher end cues as well.
 
That's cool. They have a couple that I kinda like. I've heard a lot of good things about Players as well. I looked at a couple of their HXT cues that I like. Anyone have opinions on them? I'm kinda interested in players and Valhalla mainly for the lifetime warranty.

I did forget to mention that you can on and off pick up some nice bargains on cues on ebay, I recently got a new never chalked McDermott M82E (Silver Cobra) with a leather wrap for $100. I couldn't resist at that price. Generally its used cues, but sometimes a store is either going out of business, or trying to liquidate something that has sat around for too long without being sold.
 
I've seen some intriguing cues on eBay, I just have always absolutely hated using eBay.

I would definitely stay with Players brand for your budget. Nice cues, and a good "hit" for the money.

EDIT: Maybe Lucasi, but I haven't check their prices lately.

Ok, maybe changing plans. I'm thinking of buying a cheapo cue for now until the February when I have some extra cash to get a nice cue. I'm looking as cheap as possible for a nice playing cue. Bought a cheapo Excalibur from a local shop, but it was complete trash. I want something with a pro taper at least. Anyone ever played with a Sterling? Description online seems pretty good, but can't find any reviews. Found one for like $60 shipped.

Yes I did. I tend to find it helpful to ask more knowledgeable people's opinions on a topic that I'm not very experienced with. It's not for attention as you seem to think, its so that I don't waste my money on crap that I could be mislead by. If you don't feel like sharing your opinions on the topic, then don't. It's that simple.

Now, if anyone has experience with Sterling cues, I would like to know if they're worth the $63. I know cues aren't for looks really, but they have an overlay ginacue lookalike that I'm interested in. Like I said before, I'm just wanting something cheap to hold me over for a couple months. Got my eye on a Lucasi that I can't afford yet, lol. I'm not opposed to a sneaky, but I would like a wrap.

I don't believe they are worth the money. Especially not if you can save up around $30 more bucks and go with a Players. At the price level, you really can't beat their play-ability, and it will last if care is taken.

Best Inexpensive Cue

I've posted this before about inexp. cues and i'll say it again. Mueller's makes a sneaky in-house for $140.00 Bacote into maple, true hidden joint construction TON of cue for money. And,no, i don't work there.
 
Thanks for the info. I'm looking at a lucasi in a couple months, and really just need something good enough for now. I'm not overly skilled, just hate house cues. I had a cheap graphite $40 halex from Wal-Mart for a while back. Had a leather le pro-ish tip and pro taper and I had absolutely no problems with it really. My buddy has it now and I still use it now and then. At my skill level, I can't tell a huge difference between it and my McDermott aside the wood shaft. I went ahead and ordered the Sterling, simply because it was on closeout and I had a coupon code for cuesight, so I got it for $55 shipped. I figure if its crap at least its not a huge waste and I'll know for next time.

I really do appreciate the help most of you guys gave me, and I think when I get taxes I'll definitely be looking at a Players for a backup.

I would pass on buying a cue right now. Save your money up and get a nice cue that will last for years and hold it's value. Once you buy a cheapo cue, you are going to be stuck with it. Why not get a nice used custom in the 500-600 range? Sounds like a better investment of your money to own one nice cue for about the same money as owning several low end cues that you will never see the money that is invested in them.

That's my plan is to buy a nice cue, but in a couple months when I get a bonus at work. Just want a cheap cue to use until then. My McDermott was only $160 and I don't really feel like spending another $50 to send it back in to fix. My buddy wants it, so I'm just gonna give it to him and let him send it in.

Not everyone has that kind of scratch lying around, and you don't need an expensive cue to play well. One of my best friends has a $90 Players cue and it, flat out, plays better than a lot of customs I've used. Lucasi makes a nice inexpensive cue as well.

Well, the Lucasi I'm looking at buying in a couple months with my bonus check is just under $400. I know that not really a lot for a cue, but its a chunk for me. Which is why its waiting a bit.

Nothing against Lucasi but I would shop around for cues around 350.

I've seen schons, Joss, and I think bought my old Frey custom for around that price. You can get a great cue for 350 to 400.
