Hi! Bar player here. My old predator got stollen so just picked up a 314-2 shaft. Looking to buy a non-predator butt that'll fit it, under a hundred or two hundred. I'm looking to turn my cue into a sneaky pete. But not one that looks like a fancy house cue. I want a plain looking butt ( no brown triangles or anything ) that performs well. Looking to buy used. Ideally a custom or a vintage piece ( if that is possible with my budget). Any tips will be greatly appreciated! I'm in Los Angeles but ebay friendly.

Go to Hard Times and see Al Romero. Not sure what he would charge you to make a sneaky butt, but it should be in your range.

Bad memories at Hard Times. Years ago made the mistake of entering a tourney there. I got destroyed..

Would someone be kind enough to list some sneaky butts that would fit that shaft ?

Brown triangles are fine actually but no wrap or any fancy designs.

No idea, I got it on craigslist in like new condition. Original tip, barely used. It's got the 314-2 logo on it.. How do I tell ?

At least post a picture with joint at your shaft.
Do you have pool halls in your area? you can take your shaft and try it on different butts.

I'm surprised the poster did not mention the pin size in his post. If you don't know the pin size then you may have to try gently screwing in other butts into the shaft to find out.

Even that may be difficult though. Is the joint piloted or flat-faced?

I'd be willing to bet that it's a 5/16 x 14 pin because the 314-2 is piloted and not flat -faced.

EDIT: My mistake. It's probably a Uni-Loc because that pilot is pretty big. Much bigger than the ones on a 5/16 x 14. Almost certainly a Uni-loc shaft and if that's the case you'll be hard pressed to find a non-Predator butt to fit that.

Looks like a uni-loc to me, especially since it was purchased as part of a whole predator cue.

Looks like a Unilock pin, I had a 314/2 shaft with 5/16x14 pin, and the pilot was much much smaller.

So you have to look for a Predator or Lucasi butt with Unilock joint.

Just noticed tiny letters on the metal part. Not sure if it's the serial number. Might be helpful:
"9BX08B" and on the other side it reads "U".

So I'm guessing it's a Uni-Loc Radial Pin

I had the same issue as you, I already had the uniloc 314-2 shaft and just wanted a new butt. I called up pooldawg and asked them if they had any uniloc butt that they are willing to sell separately without the shaft. Luckily, someone had just returned a brand new lucasi lzc32 butt that they didn't want anymore, so it was just laying around there and they sold it to me for $200. You can call other places too like Muellers, seyberts, ozonebilliards. Hope this helps.

Schmelke !!!

It's got the generic / boring look I'm after ! Hopefully the ones on ebay are uni-lock.
Their vintage butts are so cheap, are you sure it's not total crap ? I hear butts don't make much difference but if it's a huge step down from Predator / Lucasi I don't want it.

Schmelke is a fantastic cue.I also have Schon,Josey sneaky,Pechauer, old Meucci Originals, old McDermott D-3,Andy Gilbert J/B,and a Rick Howard...A Schmelke rates with any of them. They have 8 joint styles. In your position I would get a whole cue 3/8x10 for little over $100.Send them your shaft to plug & tap to fit new cue.Probably less than $150 and you have your original shaft with much better joint and a back-up shaft !!!

Great minds think alike! I did the same thing to have an extra butt for my OB shafts. Plain maple butt...no nothing. Only problem is that instead of everyone ignoring it (my hope), everyone comments on it! :D Mine was a little easier than the OP's since I was dealing with 3/8"x10 on my existing shafts. But Schmelke was great about making sure the butt's joint size was identical to the OB shafts.

Sounds interesting. By the way, is going vintage a bad idea ? There are some beautiful looking vintage Schmelke butts out there if that's an option.
