Wow!

What can I say? Good friends, cold beer, the best burgers I've ever had, and world-class pool. It really doesn't get any better.

In alphabetical order:

Hi to lurker Brian (and son) who were pleasantly surprised to walk into Dave’s Good Time Billiards and find several AZBers , including JennBarretta, engaged in some friendly billiard games. It was nice meeting you.

Thanks to the Burger Barge for serving up the 9 oz. char-broiled burgers and for the doggie bags.

Thanks to Carol Clark just for being you (and for introducing me to Dawn Hopkins, one of my all-time faves). You’re the best Carol.

Thanks to Chef Jeff and Mrs. Chef Jeff for hanging out with us, even at the risk of being corrupted by my hedonistic ways :D . You guys are great.

Thanks to DCP for bringing Allison that good ole DCP Peoria karma that helps her win there every year.

Shout out to Deanna Michelle (a real cutie) and her friends. I hope you enjoyed the tournament, despite the bleachers.

Thanks to Jennifer Barretta for tagging along with us schleps to Dave’s Good Time Billiards and for being so classy and gracious. (strangely enough, the counter man gave you the only table in the place that did not have cloth that was over a decade old ;-) ) Vagabond asked me what I thought of you and after a bit of contemplation I said you were “unpretentious”. We both agreed that was a very good description. You are class all the way young lady.

Shout out to ManifestEcstacy, sorry I did not realize who you were at first. I haven’t been on the board much lately.

Big time thanks to Sarah Rousey for being so nice and hanging out with your AZB fans. Like the song says, you are “sweeter than soda pop”. Someday I would like to buy you dinner (hopefully after a Sunday tv victory) to repay you for your friendship. Kathy thinks you are the greatest. Remember, “practice hard, have fun”. BTW I love the “mohawk”.

Thanks to vagabond for removing his mask and for all the great conversation and thanks for the lunch. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed meeting you after all these years and you have the coolest shoes I’ve seen lately. Hopefully we will meet again somewhere along the billiards circuit.

Thanks to sjm for all the stories, the knowledge, and the funniest line of the weekend. As we baked in the sun on the deck of the Burger Barge sjm says “Now I know how a pop-tart feels”. I was LMAO. Also thanks for kicking my arse in straight pool. I knew pretty quick I had jumped into shark-infested waters and I did not have one of them steel cages neither :D

Kudos to williebetmore for inviting us to the Saturday morning shootaround/woofing/sharking session at Dave’s Good Time Billiards/Gun-and-Knife club and for sweating matches with me. We certainly have seen some great ones over the past couple of years.

Thanks to zeeder for introducing himself and for being an all-around good guy. I hope to see some of your cues someday..if you remember to bring them with you LOL.

From reading all of the wonderful and colorful posts from everyone who went to Peoria, it sounds like the tournament was a complete success and all in attendance had a grand old time. Thanks for posting. It's nice to read some positive pool threads, quite refreshing! :)

and a special thanks to Mr. Wally In Cincy for being gracious enough to log me out at the PC at the Hampton Inn when i left myself logged on! that one was a valuable lesson.

just glad Ms. Fisher was able to win without me sitting there next to her for the Finals match, i was worried about that all the way home. also glad she didnt have a stiff neck this time around like she did in the last tournament. Sarah Ellerby took her chair the 1st TV match saturday, so i ended up sitting across the way from her. however, i wasnt too worried about that match since it was Sarah's first time on ESPN.

and i agree with you Wally, that Fisher gal is an awesome talent, she just seems to be able to get the job done. dont know how, but she sure does.

regards all,
DCP

p.s. i hope Steve Tipton sticks around with the WPBA for a long, long time. he alone is almost worth the price of admission.

I noticed Allison rubbing her neck several times during the tourney, so I'm thinking she still is having some problems. I'm wondering if her stance might be the cause of it? It sure didn't slow her down this time, though.

EVERY tourney needs a guy like Steve Tipton. You're right, DCP, he is great!!!!! The way he compliments the players as they warm up, without sharking them, is perfect and really allows the crowd some insight into their personalities and the whole WPBA scene. He knows how to work a crowd. He is underpaid, I suppose, but what else is new?

Ohhh, hush! (; Haha.

Yes, I did...I can't describe how fun it was for me...It was my first WPBA tournament...and even though the bleachers totally sucked, I let the players I was there to see know how I was going to have a numb butt for the rest of the year, just for them. That was my reply when Allison asked me if I was enjoying the tournament..."Well, yes, if it wasn't for being stuck in the numb-butt section, I'd be set." lol. She laughed at me...why does everyone laugh? I was serious!! (:

good times all around, hopefully next year we will be able to play more pool and eat more burgers.. and get all the fun started before sunday afternoon!

hopefully next year I can go home able to sit down in a normal chair.. i had to lie on my stumach till this morning to get better...

My guess would be all of those years and 10 hour days at the table with the chin on the cue.

Stand straight up and tilt your head all the way back as far as it can go as if you were watching a star in the night sky that was directly over you. How long do you think you could hold that position without getting a stiff neck and a major kink in it?

Now, tilt your head back as stated with a cue in your hand, bend over at the waist to set up to the CB without moving your head out of that position, and you'll be right where you should be to have the cue on your chin. How long do you think the neck vertabrae and discs can take that before giving out?

You gotta go "old school" as you age and get the head and body somewhat higher in my opinion if you want to avoid that.

Better yet go "old school" to begin with and you will never have to change. In a higher stance your stroke will also be more powerful and accurate. IMO

Try this, to develop a feel for a good high stance, stroke. take all the balls off of the table. Get in a comfotable shooting position, which does not involve the cue being over a rail. Now, put your stroking hand's knuckles on the cloth. Stroke the cue back and forth with out letting the knuckles come off of the cloth. This will train your muscle memory, in the proper timing of the elbow drop. When you get this down, then try to do it with a forward flick of the wrist, at the exact moment that your elbow is at 90 degrees. Do these in slow motion, or you will get rug burn on your knuckles. ;)

Wally,

You and Kathy are great. I'm glad you guys made it back this year. We have to have our yearly "date" as Kathy calls it. :) Dinner sounds great sometime. Maybe in Louisville or even better on that vacation you happen to be planning in October to New Mexico...by the way, did I mention the WPBA has a tournament there in October??

take care,
Sarah

If you're going to sweat pool matches, you have to either get used to the numb-butt or you need to buy one of those ultra stadium seats. They have some that look like they came out of a sports car and have cup holders too. LOL!!
