Gorina as the Official Cloth

Personally, I still think the choice of slow cloth has to do with making the players hit the balls harder. This creates a sense of drama and intensity for television. Think about all the pool movies you have seen. With only a few exceptions, all of the shots involve guys banging the balls around and slamming them into the pocket.
Talk all you want about separating the players from the pretenders, slow cloth simply makes the game more palatable for television viewing by the great unwashed. True champions rise to the top regardless of the conditions.

One of the pool halls I play at has slow cloth on their tables. The other place I go to used simonis 860. So I have been able to do a side by side comparison to some degree.

Since I have been playing on the simonis for longer I am definitely more a custom to fast cloth. Nevertheless I don't find the slower cloth to be that bad. I do have to hit the ball a little bit harder to move it around but for 8 ball 14.1 or One pocket its not that bad. 9 ball was a different story though, I had a hell of a time adjusting because I generally had to move the cue ball greater distances.

In my humble opinion, once the players get used to the new cloth it will be business as usual. If I can get comfortable with it, the pros will be able to, and everything will even out again.
