I overheard an announcer mentioning the tackiness of his handle hand.
Anyone know what he's done.
Does he play with waxed Irish linen?

Trialling using a bit of Grip on my break cue for 8 and 10 ball. Using my player for MR format 9ball. Quite like it so far. Thing hits like a sledgehammer. The more back weighting is nice - It was probably weighing 19 as I changed nothing when I got it, so now probably about 20. The thickness keeps my wrist from folding when I give it a bit of extra, which Is why I decided to try it. Can get up to near 30mph on the break speed app. But having real good success around the 25mph mark.

Player is always going to be wrapless, ain't nothing that feels better.

Varner said in high humidity, wrap less causes problems.
What kind of problems?

I live in Asia, and I find the contrary (40 degrees in summer and high humidity), but then I am no Varner... Linen wrap used to drive me nuts, and I get sick of wiping off leather wraps (not to mention treating them for longevity). Found more issues with both wrap types than I've ever had with wrapless

I am also from a snooker background, and I guess the familiarity is somewhat of a necessity/placebo to me

Pool itself doesn't work in high humidity. It's no fun to do either.
It does when there's a fuck load of A/C involved haha

On that note, I will be posting up another tournament experience post soon. Played in a very well organized tourney that - praise all the gods - had ice cold A/C throughout the venue. As I have mentioned in other threads, the group of stores I play at have been changing big time, and gearing up for big things to come.

They hosted an amateur only event this weekend after renovating the smaller store, with a field of 60+ very strong players (mostly local obviously, but some Japanese, German, Polish and UK). Not many are Fargo listed, but I can't imagine a single one of them is under 600.

The tournament and its organization has gone from strength to strength. They are producing another bigger venue with 40+ tables in downtown (but also have a nice one outside of downtown that I posted about previously). But this downtown location that hosted on the weekend has also been updated for events on a more local scale and it was great to test it out. The TV table stage is super good looking. In line with MR spec. I think the store is going balls to the wall, in the face of the ever expanding C-8 ball scene, in wanting to be 'THE' American table store in the country.

That's insanely fast, most people can't break 20mph.
Last night I recorded 5 times at 28mph - only 3 of them stayed on the table. I was giving it everything and therefore I wouldn't consistently try to do this, it was more for the shits and giggles. The boss of the store hit 30mph, but the CB became a lethal projectile... (he's got some mechanics I could never imitate, as many Chinese players do when breaking I've come to find.. a lot of upward movement prior to coming back down into the driving impact, kind of like a pendulum, and I cannot replicate this - he's also built like a tank)

Previously, I have found decent success around 20-22mph playing 8/10 ball. But have changed my stance and technique for 8 and 10 ball. Partly because I found I didn't need a break cue for MR format 9ball, which led me to thinking how I could improve on my breaking technique in each game played and best utilize the break cue I have.

Yesterday I had very good success at around 25mph playing 10 ball. It didn't require too much exertion beyond what I was already putting in. Making a ball in the side on most occasions, along with a ball in the top corner on some occasions, with decent CB and shot on the one on most occasions.

Going to take it to a game scenario today against my friend in a couple sets of 10 ball. Might also tinker with the speed of my 8 ball break if I have some time after.

I need the metric AC tonnage regardless. Seriously pocket speed is moot without it.

Slippage of handle hand grip....

IIRC, in his segment of What's in the Case, Fedor mentioned how wet his grip hand gets.
He carried something in his case to help with that issue but I cannot remember what it was.
Any wrapped cue used by a sweaty-hand player can feel tacky to a dry hand.
I find waxed linen to be slicker than snot. When Proficient rewrapped one of my cues with that stuff it was way too slick.
I had a local cue maker wrap it with stacked leather because I prefer the wrap to be slightly tacky.
Dry hand holding a dry wrap can be a bit too slick with my loose grip.

I wonder if using a glove on both hands would work? Never seen anyone do it. I haven't. Always had an Irish linen. Maybe in my next life. You know anyone who has tried it?
I have, seems to give you a feeling of a little less control of your grip. It wasn't good for me.
