Gorst Magic Rack

Hey everyone,

Been thinking about picking up the new FG x Magic Rack from Fedor Gorst (link below), and I’m curious if anyone here has tried it yet and what your thoughts are on it - build quality, consistency of the rack, how it holds up over time, etc.

I’ve been using an Accu-Rack for a while now, but it’s pretty worn out and doesn’t hold the balls in place like it used to, especially frustrating when trying to get a tight rack.

Would love to hear from anyone who’s tested out the FG version and how it compares.

Gorst said that it's thicker so it hold the rack tighter.
But then it brings all the issues with those template to a higher level.

Thread 'THE Magic Rack'

Some on here had said the Magic Rack is a better template than the Outsville template. Does Magic Rack have a website? I searched for Magic Rack and thought I found it but the ad said Magic Ball Rack - NOT Magic Rack.

I want to be sure and buy the right one. Can someone point me in the right direction.

No issues with replacing the Accu-Rack with a new one, those racks are not made to be so durable as lasting for years. The ones we have been using at the pool hall seem to last maybe 4 months before feeling worn out.
Considering the rack Fedor helped design has been out maybe 15 minutes, it is going to be a very hard time to know how it holds up over time LOL

It's basically and upgraded - thicker Magic Racks, these hold on for years.

i was thinking about making a rack out of wood in a triangle shape. it might remind people of the past when the break was a power shot and not a trick shot.

i have one of those old wood ones but i am scared to use it as it must have tremendous collector value.

I cannot fathom paying more than a dollar for a thin piece of plastic. I can find the old turtle rack, 3 for 3 dollars on Taobao. Keep them at the hall. The hall has Magic Racks which I use when they are new, use the turtle when the MR's get a bit shabby, or agree on using them with whoever I am playing.
 
I gave a couple of friends the Delta Elite Rack. One had the leather inserts and the other didn’t.
Those racks, as long the table is level and the cloth hasn’t any issues, rack the pool balls tight.

And it is so much more enjoyable to place the balls in the rack, roll them and hear the clanking
of the pool balls against each other and the aluminum rack. There’s a nostalgia you can’t replace.

Like I wrote earlier, the Delta Elite racks the balls tight and there’s nothing to remove afterwards or
attempting to dexterously lift it with a pool ball inside the rack or just encroaching on the template.

I made two of them recently from long offcuts of premium 2x4"s. It was an oddly satisfying build and because I squared the pieces up myself with a jointer, planer, and table saw, I knew the edges were accurate. Some light clamping pressure to keep the joints closed during glue curing...
This racks the balls very nicely

If it's a thicker "Magic Ball Rack" original brand, it's probably as thick as it was 15 years ago. That thicker one worked better than the current thinner one they sell. I'd def go for the thicker one.
 
$15 for 2 seems a good price.

FYI, I have 2 old Magic Ball Rack's from 15 years ago. One 9 ball, one 10 ball. They were clear and a bit thicker than the new ones. They still rack very tight today. One of them my cat even scratched the shit out of and it has tiny holes in it from its nails, and it still works well.

Yup, I can remember when the goal was to smash the rack as hard as you can, pop the cue ball in the air a foot or so, and squat it near center table. That was fun to watch and to try. Then some nerd starting thinking about where the one ball will end up. It was all downhill from there.

I took this up with Greg Cantrall who managed to make a rack from sheet paper. So posting here.

Magic rack made from wood or acrylic.
Perimeter only; like a triangle rack.
Scalloped like ball placer guides.
Lays flat. Thickness can be 1/8 to 1" or more. Retarded?

It's in two pieces. Rack and remove.
