Got a crappy table and a few questions.

I've got a really gross table...slow cloth, terrible rails, mdf playing surface.

Short of new cloth and rails, what can I do to make this thing play faster? It's really terrible right now, so anything would be nice. I can hit a ball from the headspot at break speed and I'd be lucky if it made it down, up, and down again. I think the rails are the biggest culprit, as I can barely push them in with my hand. Seems like the ball is dying as soon as it comes off.

Thanks,
Matt

Short of new cloth and rails??????? A table only plays well if it's a slate table with quality rails and good cloth. NOTHING else will make a table a good playing table. That's what a good playing table is!... slate, quality rubber rails and good cloth. Sorry. There is no magic. Get rid of the junk table and get a decent used table. You don't have to spend a ton of $$. Take your time and look for an ugly used table.

Not an option at this point. Hence my trying to find a way to deal with the few specific problems that I may actually be able to do something about. Thanks anyways though.

faster

Put artemis rubber on it with Granita cloth. If that does not do the trick your in trouble.

The fast cloth on a less than flat bed will make for some very dissappointing eneven rolls! You will see far more of the defects in the bed with a smooth cloth, the balls will curve very noticeably into the bed dips! Slate is necessary, and it has to be very flat slate for fast cloth.

I'd say the least expensive thing you can do to get some action off the cushions is to make sure the rails are tightened securely. A loose rail will be dead regardless of the rubber mounted on it, and it won't cost you anything to sock them down a bit. Just a thought.

Thanks for the tip.
