I finally got my first Barry Szam, this was a big day for me, I have owned alot of cues, I have Gus Szam cues and the day I got my first Gus was a big day too, but to me this a bigger day. The Fed-x came this morning, and i opened it up-my back is really bad and I have been in bed all day with the Barry cue next to me, I cant look at it long enough, its a 4pt rose wood with pea cock inlays, it is without a doubt the best looking cue I have ever owned, I have some over the top cues that are beatiful too-but this Barry Szam is a blend of Gus and Barry's accompplishments, its not over the top but very tastefully ornate. I have never owned a cue that looks this nice, period. the classic work reflecting Gus and the modern era blended to perfection with Barry propetuating his fathers legacy-a true genious.

I hope my back feels better tonight- Id like to hit some balls with it, it will get alot of use.

man i'm on cloud 9 with this and will be forever, I have other nice things I bought 20+ years ago and I still love them and this cue will be one such possession.

i'll have pics in a week-I need to get to LA and have my friend shoot it.

thanks to Mr. Barry Szam for helping me fulfill a dream. And a tribute to his father too.

As someone who just went over the top to obtain a BS cue (my avatar and also posted in the gallery), I know exactly how excited you must feel about obtaining your Barry cue. I will be looking forward to seeing you post pictures of the beauty and waiting for word on how you think it plays.

As for the back problem, I too suffer with issues of lower back problems but have found a way to manage it and keep the pain under control. Been through one back surgery on the L5-S1 disk already and I am not hoping for any others. Every person is unique and not one thing will work for everyone. Hopefully you will find the routine (diet, exercise, stretching, and good posture throughout the day) to manage your issues. Good luck!

cant wait to see it...how long did u have to wait for the cue?

about a week, i PAID for it, but wow I you cant take it with you, man this cue is it period, game over end of story, it isnt my most expensive cue but it is my favorite I have ever owned time 10. i'll have pics in a week, i dont have a camera thats good enough. its rosewood points and ivory peacocks. 3 shafts and a Penn linen wrap-again my favorite.

its one of 2 Barry Szam's with peacocks in the butt, i'll see what i can do to get pics sooner.

i just cant stop talking about this cue, i have never been so excited about a cue ever, i'm not exaggerating-I have owned alot of cues in my life-some for 20 years, I love them dearly but this cue is my number one, i have been very lucky in my life-had some hard times too, but this is more exiciting to me than my first car, house, etc. I had my first business go bankrupt and that hurt, my business now has been going 11 years and that feels good, but this cue to me represents a huge mile stone in my life, its not the value of it at all. its the fact that I had a goal many years ago to be able to have a Szam, at first a Gus because I didnt know of Barry, when Gus Passed away I felt a terrible sence of loss, I never spoke to him but knew people who knew him and to me he was/is a legend, when I found out Barry was taking over I was very excited, but shortly after i retired from serious pool, now I'm back. I have been back for the past 6 months or so, and decided to fullfil a dream/goal and buy a Szam. So I bought a Gus I love it, to me they are the best cues ever gus or barry I have no prefrence, both are amazing.

When I saw one of Barrys cues for sale I called him and the gentalman i bought it from, I was star struck-I live in LA and see celeb's all the time and know a few but that dosent do anything for me, I called Barry and had butterflys in my stomach-thats rare for me, i left a message, he called me back-I was in a taxi in Germany when barry returned my call, he is a gentalman. I was a bit scared-I never get nervious on the phone but I was and we spoke for 10 minutes, he is a wonderful person-forget about cues HE is a gentalman-a roll model for any of us, straight foward, no sugar coating and just a good man. He is taking his fathers legacy a step ahead and thats a big shoe to fill and he has done it, I never spoke to Gus but he was a great father, Barry is proof of that. He answered all my questions etc. wasnt rushed and just a nice guy.
He knew I was in bad shape with my back alone in Germany and called me to see how I was and traded long emails with me as he knew i was lonely.

I told this story with out his permission i hope he dosent get upset, but this is why this cue my Barry is special, it has a great family business behind it, something thats rare in america these days, a labour of love, and to me that is important and deserves recognition.

The cue has alot of Gus and Barry in it, that is great. I like it bettter than just a Gus cue-the combination of their creativity is second to none, Barry has done a amazing job on the work in the cue, his dad would be proud of him, I was close with my mom. And understand that kind of relationship.

thanks Barry,

thanks Barry,

I ordered my first Gus Szamboti many years ago - Gus built me a cue with a heart inlay. I would call him every once in awhile just to talk - didn't want to rush him - loved every minute I talked to him.:) :) Gus died before he built another order for me. I talked to Barry several years ago about the order - we joked about it and he said I should "build my own" since I have gone from player to cuemaker. Told him I wanted the Szamboti since it would be much more valuable then a cue I would build.:) - loved every minute I talked to him too.

Is Barry taking any more orders? I e-mailed him a couple of years ago, and he said he wasn't. :(

What does a new B.S. cue cost these days?

Thanks,

Dean

i have no idea what he charges, he is very fair I'm sure, i know what I paid and all things considered I feel like I got a great deal, its a Szam if it was a Gus it would cost alot more and is the same thing to me-granted the old wood cues tend to play better(Just my opinion) so all I have to do is age mine a bit-what a bad spot to be in having a fresh Szam thats too green to play with ;).

Barry makes all of his cues from thoroughly seasoned wood. the wood is well old enough. you don't have to wait to play with any cue made with it. in fact i'm sure if Barry knew you were thinking this way he might be very disappointed that you were "aging" his work any more than it's already endured. his cues are meant to be played with when you get them. he, as learned from his mentor, make sure of this. enjoy the cue, you don't have to wait any more.

thanks Barry,

I agree with you that there is not much that feels better in life than SLOWLY opening the package that holds a cue that has been on order for quite a while. One that you have personally designed, and anticipate delivery every day you wake up until it arrives. After opening the shipping container, I very slowly expose the cue and, almost without fail find my high expectations exceeded.

Part of what keeps cue collectors on the hunt and with cues on order......

Will

i'll awalys be in action for another cue, but I have been around alot of years and I doubt I'll find a cue I like as much as this one, never say never something might fall from the sky, but i'm not hopeful, i'm looking for second place now.
