Surely someone has a really gorgeous bocote cue. Of course, I've never seen one.

I don't know, the one I had made from Eric Crisp was really nice. Although, if you don't like bocote I guess you wouldn't like it.

Ross,

I remember that...Trying to convert me into a coco lover :D

In case anyone wants to see what I consider one of the prettiest bocote cues I have ever seen.

I'm sure you remember my sig from a year or so ago....

Cocobolo is pretty, Bacote is ugly.

I do remember. I'm secure enough in my woodhood to admit that I love both cocobolo and bocote!

Favorite = Amboyna Burl and Snakewood (If snakewood was stable enough to use for anything but points it would make a pretty cue, but it's not if it will crack, but when it will crack even if cored).

Least favorite forearm woods = Ebony (Looks like cheap maple painted black then sealed), but ebony veneers around Ivory looks decent (I guess it's not good for me to talk about ebony that way when my new cue will have a 4 pc ebony handle, w/ lots of ivory and the other cue has ebony points:)). Pink Ivory also looks cheap to me.

God must really hate cuemakers.
Bocote is one of the most stable woods there is.
Cocobolo is poisonous, acidic and is prone to twisting turning and warping.
But, coco is much prettier.
How can anyone not like the look of purpleheart?
Another stable wood. Great to accentuate the cue's tone as well.

fav.-I love cury bubinga and curl maple, Dark cocobolo, and a good dark peice of tulip wood.

best hit- rosewood

least fav.-olive wood and lemon wood and ash

Satinwood Rulez!

Lighter colored satinwood is a great substitute for maple, esp in a forearm...hits much harder, has subtle figure with shimmering chatoyance, and is certainly unique.

-Roger (burl...how original :) )

"Subtle figure with shimmering chatoyance!"

Wow. That could be the gayest thing anyone has ever said to me. :D

That is a yuppie comment, btw, but it makes sense now that you're hanging out in Hoboken...:D

-Roger (bloodwood Rulez!)

OK. You want a war? You got one!!! :D

Not only is satinwood unattractive; not only is bloodwood gross, but there's a certain cuemaker out there who I think is TERRIBLE!!! His cues are lackluster and terribly plain in appearance and their playability is unremarkable to say the least (And I'm NOT talking about Richard Black here - for once)!!

HA!!! :D

Easy. :D Personally, I just don't think it has much pizzaz. It's okay for accents like veneers or recut points, but a big chunk of it just doesn't do it for me.
To each his own, which I guess is the purpose of this thread.

:o
followed by cocobolo and that snakewood into ebony combination above. also coco/ebony with no veneers is hot too :p

bacote is definitely an ugly wood, but it seems like a good kind of ugly... it has character I guess :)
What kind of wood is that?
