This is available on Accu-Stats PPV for $6

How would those who have seen the video rate it on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the best)?

I have the video but haven't watched it in years. I recall he went through a lot of break shot scenarios. I remember writing them down. I'd say if you learn one thing from the video it's worth $6. If you are a seasoned 14.1 player you might not learn anything, but if you are intermediate you probably will.

Hard to make *such ratings*.

Always depends on your knowledge, too. But the dvd s i saw from Grady all had been really good.
Definitley worth in my opinion to watch it.
My recommendations if it s about books and dvds:
G. Fels "Mastering Pool"
"Babe" Cranfield: "Straight Pool Bible"
Capelle: Play your best straight pool

If it s about dvd s i recommend the 2 videos/dvd s from Jim Rempe about 14.1- very underestimated from several guys- imo VERY useful and worth to listen carefully :-)
-
The runs from John Schmidt where he commentates- exremly well comments here. Strong stuff!
-
If you find video files/runs with comments from David Sapolis......eat these- full of knowledge- you ll find gems here.
-
Matthews DVD imo also all good.
-

And of course as usual all the games from good players- tons of it on youtube nowadays.

finally: to play against really STRONG players yourself is the best school. To sit in your chair and watching and learning is the best teacher- and if he s that good...you ll learn so much. Ask questions over and over again- 14.1 players are usually all very helpful bc they know how f....ng hard the game is-and they enjoy to share their knowledge. So if oyu have the chance to play against a *14.1 monster*, put out your handcuffs and catch him :-)
To play a guy who kills you on almost every m imstake is the best school for you-
i had that myself for a loooong time- against that guy i sit so long time in my chair.......-lol- the toughest thing was to not get pissed *grin*.

Enjoy our 14.1 journey.

The grady mathews instructional is very, very good. If your knowledge of straightpool is not extensive i guarantee that you will learn something. You will learn how to shoot the most common breakshots, several patterns, tactical / safety play etc. It's absolutely worth 6 dollars. All of the Grady Mathews instructional videos I have seen have taught me something. The best is the one on banking and safety play. I use the systems from that video every day.

Thanks guys. My high run from over a year ago is 36. Since I've been playing the game more, I've had a few in the 20s with my high being 29. So I'd definitely put myself in the beginner category. I'll be buying this tonight after work to watch.

I watched it.

I'll give it a 6/10

There were definitely some things I learned, but I would have rather seen a format similar to Rempe's 14.1 instructional where he goes through a few racks ball by ball.

Stop right there! For $6 if you learned just one thing it was worth it.

Of course. Just because I only gave it a "6" doesn't mean it wasn't worth it.

Now I'm watching an old Sigel/Varner match to 150, and already seeing a few things Grady talked about. I'll be playing some today.

Maybe I'll break my high run :grin-square:

Got it. It just sounded like you were knocking it because it wasn't formatted like Rempe's video. Of course the video was about break shots and key balls specifically, and not how to run balls leading up to the key and break balls. So I'm just saying don't downgrade the video because it didn't include information that you saw on some other video. Downgrade it if it was hard to understand, or if it was missing information, made half-assed and so on.

I know I'm nitpicking but it sounded like your reason for the 6 wasn't valid to me. :nono:

If you haven't seen it yet, I strongly recommend Phil Cappelle's Break Shot Patterns book/DVD combination. The last four or five shots in every rack are critical.

Thanks for the recommendation. Well I played a little today.

Got to the pool hall, and set up a standard side of the rack break shot. Missed it. I usually keep shooting when that happens, but I'll spot up any stray balls if they dropped.

So I run out that rack, and get decent on a break ball. Miss that one, but keep shooting, and run that rack. I finally make the next break ball, but only got like 4 balls into the rack before missing. Would have had a decent run if I could have made those first two break shots.

It is getting easier and easier (knock on wood) for me to get through each individual rack now. My end game patterns aren't perfect, but they're not as horrible as they used to be. I think if I can improve that as well as tweak my mid-game just a bit, I'll be running some decent numbers soon. OH, and stop missing break balls.

I'm going to dedicate a few hours on Sunday, and try to record some videos to post for review.

Sorry for the ramble...

the video is ten of ten all day long.
get it and watch it three or four times a year.
ain't nobody going to do it better. ever.
