I stopped in last night to hit some balls. I played there often with Grady when he first opened the room about 20 years ago. I think he'd be upset at the condition the room is in now. Everything is dirty. Sad trip down memory lane for me.

Do any of you consider this your home pool room? Curious on what you think.

It's the only "pool room" within 30 minutes of me. Yeah it's a dive bar with pool tables now. But that's sort of an insult to dive bars cuz at least they have personality/charm usually.

Owner has no competition at all and with beer/drink prices that most can't compete with she keeps a good flow of business. No pool players really go there aside from a few on Tuesday nights when the in house league is going. Place has 150 people in there during the only time it's non smoking(Tuesday from 6:30 to end of leagues) but the moment the last 8 ball drops for league they get on the intercom saying "ok light em up" and the place is dead in 20 min. Beyond lunacy in 2026.

I had my run ins with Grady over the years but at least it was a pool room back then.

In St. Louis, the clientele has certainly changed, immigrants comprise the majority of players now, but the owners of my local hall are stalwart survivors. Idk how they manage to maintain their business in today's economy and still keep the hourly rate around 4 bucks!! No booze, no food, just tables.
I love the place bcuz as soon as you walk in, you know this always was and still is, a players hall. Tables are well taken care of. Brushed and cleaned regularly. There's an unspoken pride in things here.
One bar box. The rest are all big tables with heated 3c and snooker capping it off. Same smell, some of the same faces, time ravages all unfortunately, but they hang in there.
Admiration and mad respect for the owners.👊🏻

I’m in Columbia now visiting our son. I leave an extra cue here just for the opportunity to go play a bit. Tried to rent a car but because of USC graduation none were to be had. Uber to Grady’s today.
I was wondering why the rental car lot was so empty!! I fly out tomorrow morning at 5:00 otherwise I'd try to meet up for some practice.
