Gray is Easy on the Eyes

the way it was described to me is that pool is a takeoff from the game of golf which is older. the green is to resemble grass. I think most with snooker tables pick the traditional green. a lot of the new tables are meant to fit in with house decor so people like to use a cloth that fits their personal scheme.
I did bring home a 4x8 slate brunswick snooker table with red cloth. Likely it was original? If I use it I'll recover it. I think it would bother me. some do study the effect colors have upon people and red is probably one that causes rage if you believe such things have a co-relation. I think it may have some minor effect. I know someone who had to clean up after a suicide and says they are affected, it reminds them of blood and evidently that triggers PTSD or similar, on some level. thats a color you won't likely see in a hospital for example. its not uncommon for people to be upset by the sight of blood so that might be one reason. It might be naturally upsetting to humans , stemming right back to caveman days.

It was time to recover my table again, so after seeing some of the last Mosconi cup, I really liked the gray cloth, so I went with the Championship 30/30 again, this time in Steel Gray #72. I have played on all colors of cloth, Blue, Green, Red and Gold and I find the gray gives me the most comfortable backdrop for the balls. My eyes don't seem to work as hard for some reason, they feel more relaxed, as it is such a neutral color, there is no color clash with any of the balls.

Thanks to Mark Estes of Shay's Billiards and Vilmos Foldes here in Vegas for a fantastic job, table is perfect!

Time to go practice.

X2. I like the way it looks and that only one ball set uses the color -and I have no interest in that set.
My cloth is only a year old and still looks near-new, so it's a ways off for me but the next cloth will be gray for me as well.

This is the second time I have used the 30/30. I like it better than Simonis 860 or 860HR, it is faster and wears longer.

Faster I believe as it is less wool and more nylon than Simonis 860. But wear longer? It should be the opposite, due to the wool content of Simonis 860. The grey looks good, have the same table.

I had the 860HR first then recovered it with Blue 30/30. After the next year went by, the 30/30 was in much better shape than the Simonis was after 1 year. YMMV I guess-

Golf would have to be before the early 1300s to be older than Billiards. The earliest mention for golf is in the mid 1400s, and that probably not comparable to todays golf.
