Gray UK Open 9 Ball Cloth or Green Snooker Cloth ?

I don't mind the gray cloth for pool, looks ok and contrasts with the standard ball colors and Matchroom's abomination 5 ball, ha ha.

As for Snooker, not a chance it will ever change from green as there is absolutely no reason to do so.
The colour balls won't change, they contrast great already with the green.

Saw this comment on this thread regarding Snooker: "The cloths will get faster and the color will change (eventually)."
The cloths are already fast and the professional tables are already heated, color has no effect on this.
See above for why color won't change.

Why is it fair, that 9 ball is played on grey/gray cloth, but Snooker must and is Always played on Green cloth?

Fat Boy I'd enjoy your thoughts.

Where's my orange, oh yeah it's in a container in the frig ;).
Because snooker is rich with heritage and tradition as pool should be. The blue will always be worth 5 points, the carpet at the Crucible Theatre is always red and the cloth is always green. The Queen makes sure these are constants in the UK. Remember the sun never sets over the British Empire.

Pool comes from French origins and doesn’t get the respect from the Queen or protection of the UK. Some rouge Brits have violated our Americanized version of a French game and decided that changing the cloth and color of the 5 ball is somehow a good idea.

This would never happen on snooker. Absolutely impossible. Grey cloth and a miss colored ball. What if the yellow was 5 points and the blue 2? The Queen would make sure justice was served quickly upon the people who violated snooker.

I have praise for what MR has done for pool and the events and compensation they are providing players is commendable. I hope they fix the ball colors next season. I really mean that.

The cloth color imo is better than blue(I know most players & people disagree with me on that). I like green over anything, then gray, blue last of the 3. The blue hurts my eyes-that’s why. For a hour playing the blue is ok. But green cloth is the proper color for pool in all cases.

That’s my take on it. And I really do respect MR for their efforts. They made a mistake that can be easily resolved next season. I feel changing it now would be a mistake.

My home poolroom when I was a kid had grey cloth.
One of those "Brunswick family rooms" popular in the 60's.
It did revert back into a players room after time though.

For the most part everything is Tournament Blue now including my home table.
The more matches I watch played on grey cloth the more I like it.
Will probably change it over to the grey next time around.

Ah great, another 'things change and I can't handle it'-topic.
WTF??? Its bullshit when someone makes a change just to be different and 'piss mark' her territory. Has nothing to do with actual change and 'handling' it. The more i see of MR and how they do things the less i like it. Last weekends debacle with the UK Open stream is just another example of their sanctimonious ineptitude.

Absolutely agree, the proper color for the cloth should be GREEN not blue and not grey (although grey is better than blue) and the balls should be Brunswick Centennials. There used to and old well established billiard supply store in SF it was called Whitehead and Zimmerman the old man there once told me that ‘There are two things in life that need to be green, one is pool cloth and the other is dollar bills’. He nailed it!!!

Nowt to do with fairness. Pool already broke with tradition by moving from green to blue - so it's a pretty easy decision to move to grey. Grey works. It works in daylight, it works in bars in low light and it works on TV. It's better than green or blue.
Nobody I know wants to walk into a pool room and see light gray cloth on the tables, even if it might be a good color to play on.

I agree word for word. Grey is better than blue and centennials are the standard. 😃😃

Simonis has yet to offer their light gray color cloth in their best blend - 860HR, which currently is only offered in green and blue.

When/if they do, that would be a sign that color is truly gaining in demand / popularity in poolrooms.

If anyone messes with snooker they will be sent to a dungeon for 5 years and whipped in public.
Pool players and fans have no solid backing for anything on their own and always have to put up with whatever the promotors of events decide to do for the scramble for some sort of a living.
