I've always wondered where guys like Gumphries and the like first got the 'addiction'. Cole Dickson would be another I would like to know where he first started, and Toupee he too, most likely a west coast room.

I believe Cole is originally from Oakland, so I'm guessing maybe Palace Billiards?

Cole is from Fremont Ca. About halfway between San Jose and
Oakland. He cut his teeth with me and the Cochran crowd. I also
think I may have been guilty of teaching him how to drink.

In the late 60's I was stationed at Moffett field in Mountain View. Do you know if The Town and Country Billiards are still there in Palo Alto and Redwood City? And did you ever see a player named Dave Bailey?

Fantum, Don't know friend, I've been gone from the Bay Area for over
40 yrs. now. If you might mean Chuck Bailey from San Jose, yes, he
was my best bud. However Chuck was big on aliases. He was always
under cover in those days.

If you mean 'Toupee' Jay Helfert, I just discovered recently his pool
roots are in Dayton, Ohio. He's a So Cal "transplant" (pun intended)!!
