Until recently, I'd say that Stevie Moore was definitely one of the best unknown players.

Mike

I'd have to agree about Stevie. I had never heard of him till I moved to SC. For that matter, Tony Watson is another who stays under the radar. Larry Nevel is another who's ability far exceeds his fame. By the way, congrats to Stevie and Larry on making the IPT. Guess they won't stay a secret much longer.

Back in NY, Joe Fratey (sp?) is a world class 9-ball player, who maintains a low profile. I know of lots of pros who don't go out of their way to match up with Joe.

Mike, when are we going to hook up? How can I find you?

in all seriousness John Hager jr is a very good player but alot of people dont know him but he is for real.
i know him, tony chohan knows him and probably wished he didnt. they matched up playin ten ball at the dcc in 2005 and hager walkled away with the cash. tony asked for a game or two on the wire and hager just chuckled and told him he was crazy. when he lived in dallas the only player that could beat him was cj wiley. i saw him bust shane mcminn, joey barnes, and givin them the 8 and the last two. thats strong. roger griffis couldnt give joey the 8, joey robbed him and hager robbed joey. strong game, very strong.

Steve has been in our pool hall recently but not flying below radar.

He was here under the radar a couple of months ago. Nobody knew who he was until he took off the gamblers in our room. I had seen him before when I lived in midwest, but didn't know his name or anything. Was good to watch him play.

Cheers,
RC

Don Willis also comes to mind. I think one of you was related to him. Huckster maybe?

I wanna say Steve Lomako for some reason.

No, that's Cornbread Red (here). My mistake.

Thanks

What a great link. It is just amazing to get to see all those guys. It is sad that some of them can't be there to accept their inductions in person, but I know they're watching and very proud to be inducted with all the other legends. Sam

I agree Satman-great post. Would like to hear Grady's, Jay's, or Freddy's take on it. We need to be carefull about knocking someone who is still unknown.

any body heard of Coach

Used to be a great player and great friend of US open champ Reed Pierce real name is Kieth Morgan I believe he is from Mississippi I think, maybe Jackson Miss. Him and Reed are barred from poolrooms all over the southeast because they robbed everyone in 4 or 5 states. Gave me the wild 4 and 5 playing 6 ball for 20 bucks a game I shot when he rattled a 4 ball allready down 60 he won next game and I handed him a 50 he counts out 40 change I pick it up thinking he's drunk cause him and some gal are drinking pictures of long island ice tea for hours. He turns to anoyher good player sittin and watching and tells him that he gave me too much change so he could get whole 50 dollar bill before I quit, he beats me flatfooted till I'm down 200 bucks and I quit. Ten minutes later he hands me a 20 says buy yourself a drink. I tell him no thanks all I drink is Mountain Dew and I got one. He says tell you what I'll play you some more 6 ball and if you make a ball you win,I said thats exactly what we just played.

message to coach somebody tell him for me

Hey come up to Charlotte and give me that deal nowadays I got the dough

How about them boys on our chatline from Traverse City Michigan...The Big Hurt and Crew?

You're kidding me, Right???

Aint no good players in Michigan North of Lansing. And the 2 good ones there are Chicken George and Mark....

All the real action in Michigan is in the Detroit area, and it is some step action...

Most of the guys people are mentioning might not be household names
nationwide but are hardly unknowns.

The true road warriors are out there grinding it out without all the hoopla.
IMO A true Roadie might not make a grip of money but knows what to do to grind out a living.

As for the names mentioned Stevie and another fellow made a few trips across the country and came back with good $$$$ every time. Both played. Maybe its the other guy that is the unknown.

I respect Dave Favor and Pete Horn for their lives out there grinding it out. Neither is a Pro level player but both knew what to do.

John Hager Sr and Jack Cooney are another couple that did what they had to do.

Are there still any true road guys out there? Expenses have to be killing them.

Hey 5ball, a couple of your guys came to town last weekend. Not alot of action went down. I think one came away winner and one came out loser. Not alot of $ though. You should try to come up with them next time.

Road Players

One of the best I had the good fortune to see (early 80's) was the late Gary Pinkowski.
A great player, hustler, card thrower, and had a few hand pool tricks as well. Won a big Vegas 9 ball tournament in 1982.

yea that would be a trick and me and you both know plenty of poolplaying guys and dolls that would carry that picture in there pocket if it'd get them drunk/

John Hager Jr

This kid has gamble and all he needs is dad to keep him straght, last year at dcc he wanted to gamble with Tony Watson his pop told him only play 8 ahead sets of ten ball for ten thousand a set since Tony cant put a lot of racks together in ten ball like nine ball because fewer balls on break. I walk through action room last night after tournament was over and stop to watch hager and tony playing again this time 8 ahead 9 ball for 5 grand when hager sr comes up and says to jr what in the h are you doing I said no 9 ball you idiot, Jr says I just want to go back to Texas and tellem I beat him any d way he wanted to play. Old man had to laugh and Jr left town with about 35 or 40 thousand of there money.
