All the real action in Michigan is in the Detroit area, and it is some step action...
Thats why they are undercover...............silly....lol. no seriously dont know who he mentioned however there are some mean barbox champions allover MI

I am surprised that nobody has picked Nick Vlahos from Mass. Back in the early to mid 70's Nick played everybody from the east coast to texas. His nickname was "the Indian". One of the magazines did an article on him that was titled. He robbed Texas without a gun. He used to drive around in an older blue chevy that had a lawn chair bolted down for a front seat and played with his own house cue. He could not believe it when i reminded him about the lawn chair. Also 1 of the BEST safe players you would ever come across. Smartest gambler you would ever know. Always kept only so much money on him. everything he won over that amount was sent home and his brother banked for him. I believe it took Nick 3 years or so to make it to California. When he called his brother he was told he had to come home cuz of his father being sick. Unfortunately Nick passed at an early age from cancer. but with all the money he made on the road he bought some properties at public auction and rehabbed them and rented them out. All were in the Salem/Peabody Mass. area R.I.P. my friend................Mike

that U.J. Puckett ran under-the-radar for quite awhile.

There also have been 'Businessmen' in the past that have played real
good, but did not play many tournaments and such, but would privately
match up for the money.

2) or Coy Lee Nicholson

Coy and julie and the colorfull Van? Are u kidding?Whole world knows him.

I seen Chicken George get the 6,7,8 from Cracker Jack Hynes in Akron in the mid ninties for 20 a game jack won about 300. George told everyone he would have lost everything he had if Jack would have had more money. Anyone that knows George knows that it is hard to seperate him from his dough.

Speaking of Jack Hynes he is one of the best unkown 9 rocket players that is undercover. I seen him win the following games

1. Tony Ellin even Akron around 92
2. Tony Chohan giving him the 8 ball on an 8' table a couple years ago
3. Charlie Brinson giving him the 7 ball than the 6 ball around 1995
4. Ronnie Wiseman giving him the 8 around 1997
5. Cisco Diaz giving the last two in his home room in Detroit
6. Morro Paez even largest set I backed him for 10 ahead for 10k
7. Double J even before we knew who Jeremy was.
8. Getting the 7 from Effie Jack asked for the snap instead
9. Matlock even on the box 300 dollar sets Jack won two of three sets
10. Giving Shrimpboat the last 2 in his prime Worse game I made backing Jack we got no action after winning 1500

i saw roger griffis turn down an even game with jon hager jr. roger wanted a two games on the wire goin to 11 for 2500, jon offered one game and they never played. he told me that sambajon attempted to give him the call 7 and he walked away with about 5g of little santos money. this man really does play top notch pool. he could beat ANYBODY on any given day. he offered to play cj wiley even one pocket but cj wanted 9 ball. cj can string racks like theres no tommorrow so to my knowledge they never played.

Nicky Vlahos was the first name to come to mind when I saw the title of this thread. I have heard some pretty incredible stories from a road partner of his.

Will Bilbrey was playing Frankie Hernandez a few nights ago. They put up 2500 jellybeans each for two sets (5,000 jellybeans each) and you HAD to win two sets in a row to take the caaaaaaaaash. Races to 10 or 11 in nineball and after six sets they were even. Eventually, Frankie won two in a row and got the caaaaaaaaash.
Doug
(or so I was told)

When you see frankie ask him how much HE actually made???

From what I hear although he won the sets he ended up a little short in the $$ dept. But I want to make it clear it was no fault of Will or his horse...

I'd nominate Tommy Sanders from Beaumont, TX. He doesn't play anymore from what I hear, but he's beaten more than his fair share of champions. Even John Hager Jr, who everyone keeps praising in this thread, has utmost respect for Tommy's game. One of Tommy's most notable victims for the cash was perhaps one of the three or four greatest 9-ball players of the past two decades -- Earl Strickland.

I'd also nomiate Henry Busheer, aka "Patch Eye", from Philadelphia. No one who sees this old, decrepit-looking 70-something black guy with one eye would think that he can play. Well, even Grady said that he couldn't give him more than a ball or two at one pocket back in Patch Eye's prime, and he can still play -- he was third or fourth at DCC One Pocket in 2000.

One-Eyed Henry plays sick one pocket even at his age now. He just never gives you anything and you wouldn't suspect it when you look at the guy. He was incredible back in the day from stories that I've heard.

Anyone ever heard of Mike Shaffer? He is from West Virginia (somewhat close to Morgantown). People in that area say he would play all comers at one pocket.

Also, Mike McClain from Uniontown, Pennsylvania? Still plays very strong, but used to unbelievable.

Mike McClain, in my mind, was never unbelievable. He did play very strong, and he still plays decent.

billb, check your pm's

Jr. Goff

You said of all time, right. How about a little old man from way down south. In my home, Lewis Alexander Goff, Jr. (aka: Junior, Lefty, the Florida Kid) was and still is, a real legend. Billiards Digest called him "the consumate gambler". Even in his early 80's now, he is one heck of a one pocket player.

Jr's 3 rules of gambling:
1. Get the money
2. Get the money
3. Get ALL the money

Hey 5ball, a couple of your guys came to town last weekend. Not alot of action went down. I think one came away winner and one came out loser. Not alot of $ though. You should try to come up with them next time.

McClain used to run with some other guy from Uniontown.( Jerry Elliot)
I ran into them at our local VFW & knew to stay away from
the other guy. I thought McClain was just the lead-in guy.
I was going to skin him & quit when the other guy got up.
Big mistake!
Mike Shaver is a hell of of a player but everybody tells me
he's real nitty and wants the lock. Plus, I heard he's pretty sick
lately.

I never met Nick but knew some people who knew him... some of the stories are just too funny...One of his funniest has to be he used to stop mid match and go into the bathroom and brush his teeth....The story goes his mother told him he could go to the pool room only if he brushed his teeth:D

Nick Vlachos

The story I heard about Nick was that when Rodney Morris first went on the road and came to New England he was told that he should avoid him.
