Greensboro, NC Billiards

I am in the process of opening a pool hall in Greensboro, NC and I have two questions:

Would there be any interest in this area?

How important is it that the table be heated?

I play in gso.. usually at Breakers. I go there because the crowd is generally low key, and respectful of other players. There are few halls left that I'd take my wife for an evening out, Breakers is on a very short list. On a weeknight, or if we're in the mood for smaller tables, we go to timeout in Kernersville.

I'd love to see a NICE place in gso that doesn't cater to the younger crowd, but I understand that's how you make money.

As for heated tables, I don't think I've seen one heated around here in a long time.

This is Three-Cushion Billiards (a.k.a. Carom Billiards) I'm referring to. Do you play Three-Cushion Billiards?

From my experience in the nyc metro area, if you only have one table and it's not heated, you'll be playing on it by yourself. You need at least two tables to attract a patronage of frequent players. Heated and covered with Simonis Rapide cloth. Good luck with your new place.

3 cushion

I lived in N Carolina for ten years until recently moving back to Chicago. IMO you will find very few 3 cushion players unless you can bring in some Hispanic players. You will need to have heated tables as playing any real 3 cushion without heat is pretty difficult. Most of the pool halls in NC had one or so 3 cushion tables and removed them for lack of usage. Nine ball is the game most played in NC followed by one pocket and then 8 ball. Virtually no straight pool either.

My suggestion is to get a European table: Soren Sogaard, Verhoeven or Chevillotte are the best. They are all heated.

I love billiards but its hard to find anywhere to play. I think having a billiard table in your pool hall would be a great idea. Q-Masters in Virginia Beach has over 50 pool tables and the billiard table gets the most play. They have a heated Gabriels and it plays great. What sort of layout do you have in mind for your room, in terms of how many tables and what kind?

I would definitely add Gabriels to Jim Shovak's list, and I think they might be slightly less expensive. I believe Diamond is their US distributer.
