Doomcue, you now have a hard on for me from a previous thread and you can do whatever you want with it, my suggestion is to jam it up your butt. It just so happens I was watching a story last night on cable about Chris Rock's career and his trials and tribulations, and one of the funniest skits that he ever did on HBO or in comedy clubs was when he did the one about "there are two types of people in the world....black people and "niggers". He then proceeded to go off into all of these hilarious things about describing a "nigger" and what they do.
90% of the audience was black and they were rolling on the floor and in tears.
Which still meant that 100% of the audience was too.
This world is just becoming too uptight with this politically correct garbage where everyone starts foaming at the mouth at the mere mention of someone's ethnicity or background.
And Bazarus, I can't believe where you're coming from. You and I have PM'd each other long ago about our respective backgrounds. My father's given name was WASIL, or his friends called him WASHY for short. When they started making fun of him in school, they changed it to an American name, William, or Bill. When I was a kid, his friends used to refer to me as little Washy. I'm proud of where my grandparents came from and they came over on a boat, unable to speak English for many years. I can also laugh my ass off at my (our) background and any joke thrown at it by anyone. You can be Italian, Japanese, Afro-American, Irish, .....it just doesn't offend me. I'm comfortable with it all.
So larrynj, doomclueless, Baz, and anyone else....life is fun and so is cutting up. Anything that I said to Baz is a double edge sword, it cuts right back to me.

Well, freedom of speech is one thing, insulting someone is a different story and Drivemaker has a tendency to do it all over this forum. Posting those jokes is pretty much like saying "you are stupid". History of those jokes goes back to Chicago, where after World War II lots of people from Poland emigrate to closes land in America. Those people were stupid because of lack of education during the war. And thats how its started. Today is different and many polish people are very successfull and well educated all over the world.

If I get out to California, I'd try to look him up to shoot pool and just hang with him. So you can just cool it about that because you may very well be starting to show some stupidity.
And don't go telling me or anyone else about the history of these jokes. My grandfather came over in 1911, before WWI, and they all came into the same place, the boat docked in N.Y., and there's a website where I found his and my grandmother's name, birthplace, date that they docked and everything. They all didn't go to Chicago either. Mine went to the steel mills and coal mines of Pennsylvania. Jokes started IMMEDIATELY and they weren't confined to Polacks. ALL nationalities were immigrating here at the same time and they were cracking jokes about the other groups right from the beginning. Polacks were telling jokes about Italians, Jews, Irish and others. Italians were telling jokes about Polacks, Jews,...and it just went round and round.
It wasn't too awful long ago that comedians were telling ethnic jokes in the casinos, bars, clubs, and even on TV. Now, with all of this "politically correct" horseshit that flies around and the threat of a lawsuit, everyone walks around tight assed and is afraid to say anything. My father fought in WWII and I was born right after that, and trust me, ALL kinds of ethnic jokes flew around the bars among all the different groups and they laughed at each other and bought rounds of drinks and then laughed some more. I can't really pinpoint when it started, but some tight ass got offended and that snowballed into zippering the lip.
As I stated earlier, Chris Rock, probably the funniest black comedian out there right now, started doing a comedy routine about "niggers". Hey, he's a black man...he can say whatever the hell he wants about his own group of people. If he doesn't have the right, who does? It might be one of the funniest comedy acts I've ever seen. Richard Pryor used to joke about "niggers" and use the word all the time. He's revered today as one of the best comedians ever, unfortunately he came down with MS.
You said in your last sentence, "Today is different and many Polish people are very successful and well educated all over the world". This is SO true, that's why the jokes about Poles being dumb, are stupid in themselves because it really is NOT true. They're funny either way you look at it. Fact is, because of my grandparents and what they went through, I AM well educated and very successful. But, I don't forget where my family came from and I'm also a dumb hunky. And I can damn well call myself that if I want to and I really don't care if someone else does either, because I know who and what I am in life. I also, like Richard Pryor and Chris Rock, have the right to crack jokes about my own kind. I don't do it with other nationalities. If you're offended, well...take that cue out and quit being so tight assed.
Let me know if you ever want to go in together and start a Polack joke thread on here, maybe some of the other ethnic groups can do one about theirs. We'll have about 6 others going at the same time, everybody will have a right to crack jokes about their own ethnicity, no one will be crossing the line, and we'll all have a good laugh. Think that will ever happen again or is the human race going to continue to get more uptight and sensitive?
It's not like the jokes he said were racist, they were just poking fun. They fall in the same category as "blonde" jokes. Everyone knows that Polish people aren't stupid, and everyone also knows that most blondes arent stupid either. Everyone knows that many white men CAN dance, and that not every black man has a huge (you know what). These are silly stereotypes, meant only to poke fun, not to harm or offend. I am pretty sure that EVERY person on this board has heard a joke that poked fun at certain races, religions, or cultures, and I am positive that everyone on this board has found at least one of them funny. COUNTLESS TIMES on this forum have I heard people make jokes about females, but nobody said anything. Now if someone made a joke that viciously attacked a race or religion or culture or gender etc, and said something that was very disrespectful with the INTENT TO HARM OR OFFEND, that would be a different story. But obviously it was NOT Drivermakers INTENT TO HARM OR OFFEND, SO END OF ARGUMENT.
