I picked up this cue on ebay not too long ago and the seller had advertised it as a GK, but there was no GK markings. or any inlays that you see on it today. It was a plain 4 pointer with orange and green veneers. The cue was in about 85% condition at the time with a couple of bumps, a worn wrap, and the bumperless alteration repairing a chipped butt end and cracked Hoppe ring.
The cue had been repaired by an unknown cuemaker or repairperson and the original ivory hoppe ring had been replaced with a dingey looking gray synthetic Hoppe ring although the seller advertised it as ivory.
Also, the rubber bumper was removed making it look like an old bumperless Hoppe with fascinating Szamboti length points which I really like. I was so disappointed in the overall condition of the cue, I sent it directly to Greg Kucharski to confirm it was originally made by him, before asking him to work on it. After he removed the wrap, he notifed me it is definitely his and had his mark under the wrap. After I proposed the veneered gunsight for the points and barbells for the buttsleeve,, Greg agreed to remodel it to my specifications and replace the ugly Hoppe ring with a real ivory one. The pics show just the inlays. More can be seen at http://ourauctionguy.com/gk/ .
I feel really guilty and thankful all at the same time for the work that Greg did. He did more than I asked and paid for and made the matchng veneered joint protector free of charge without my knowledge or asking. I cannot post how much he charged me for the inlay work, replacing the Hoppe ring with an Ivory one, rewrap, and refinish because you would think I put a gun to the man's head and expect him to work that cheaply all the time. I think he did it as a labor of love to see one of his cues get some pin striping and a new paint job.
Greg Kucharski is a stand up guy who is very reasonable and makes a great looking and playing cue. I highly recommend his cues and his work. Total turnaround time was 3 weeks from my door back to my door which included time for him to look it over and quote me on the work.
I didn't realize, I hadn't wiped the cue down before the close-ups so the mars in any pics are smudges. The finish is shiny and impeccable.
THANK YOU GREG!
