grip question

for you better players (consistently run 50 balls or more). My natural inclination is grip tighter at the finish of my stroke, i.e. loose to tight. I have seen some good players do the opposite, i.e. tight to loose or more of a "toss". May not be important, but curious as tight to loose seems to keep the cue straighter, but feels awkward.

Actually, the slip-grip that you speak of also tightens at the end. Those folks have to catch the cue so if they don't tighten, it's gonna be an ugly foul!

You got it right. You tighten a little at the end of the stroke.

The grip is the key to game...once you get it right, you'll know it; and nobody else who doesn't have it will understand... I have noticed a SLIGHT tightening and the end of my stroke, but don't tense up or you'll throw things off.

It's like giving the cueball and extra bunch of juice that will suprise you when you first get it. The cueball will react almost delayed and without you hitting it hard, just very easy...that's a real stroke. It can't even be put into words...

Once you get it, you'll undoubtedly lose it again sometimes, and you'll spend the rest of your pool days searching for that grip again...

The cue has a taper. Hold it just enough so it would slip then stop after the tip has passed the cueball a few inches.

I try to have a loose grip as far through the stroke as possible, but not so loose that I am using a slip-stroke. This is something I concentrate on when shooting a super stroke shot. I want to hold it just tight enough that I hang on to the cue.
