Grudge Match: Cameron vs. the Ghost, race to 100

I've been reading the discussions about beating the ghost in a race to 9. But I started thinking, I wonder if I could win in the long run against the ghost. So I thought I would do a race to 100 for kicks. Of course I'm not going to do it in one day though.

I only play a couple of times a week so I should be finished within another week so. But I started tonight and here is the first days results.

Cameron 18 - 20 Ghost.

Although I am trailing I did play well to stay with the ghost so far. I'll have the next update tomorrow.

Unfortunately I won't be taping any of this as I don't have the means or interest to set up a recorder. So you guys are just gonna have to take my word. I'll be honest, I promise :).

what kind of tables?

Black Crown 4 3/4 inch pockets. Brand new cloth. 4 1/2 x 9 foot table. It's playing pretty easy right now, but I'm hitting everything into the centre of the pocket so the slidy rails aren't much of a factor. But the fact that it has been recently leveled allows me to play some super slow roll positional shots, that would be impossible on many other tables that have bit of a roll off.

Tomorrow will be on a Palason table, 4.5 inch pockets, dirty old simonis cloth. Also a 9 footer. It plays real tough. If I am still close to even with the ghost tomorrow, I will have played REAL well.

Good luck Cameron. I just recently lost a match to the ghost so kick his a$$ for me !!! ;)

Good luck Cameron, I've been playing the ghost alot lately but just short races. Maybe I should start something similar when I get back into stroke.

Beware of the Ghost!!

He's a lousy cheat. I played him a race to 7 for $100 and I'm still waiting to get paid!

Thanks for the support!

After another grueling session I still trail 37-40. At one point I was behind by quite a bit but I snapped in two nines and kept getting the 9 to settle near the corner pocket so that help me gain some more ground. But the vast majority of my wins were run outs. I also played on the black crown table again today but it had 4.5 inch pockets.

One of the reasons I am doing this is to get my 9 ball game in to shape. I intend to head down to toronto next year to play in the provincial championships. I generally don't enjoy practicing 9 ball, which is why my 9 ball game is a bit iffy. So this race to 100 is an incentive to play at least 30 or 40 games a session.

I'm starting to force myself to play for closer position rather than relying completely on my shot making, which isn't always there.

I'll update again next friday when i get back on to a pool table.

After two more sessions I trail 80-63. It's looking bleak.

dont be to hard on yourself cameron. yes loads of poeple state and some probably are true that they won vs the ghost in a race to 5 or 6. but doing it in a race to 100. i think 90% of those who beat the ghost, wont be beating it.

80-63 really is a greath result. your B&R% is 40+%. that are amazing stats, that any pro would be happy to have :) im already proud of your score. but hey :p get that break working again, and snap and combo some 9's in.

you breathing in his neck, its time to take over , and controle the table :)
keep us updated.

Thanks, although I am taking Ball in hand after the break so it reduces impressiveness I think. But even if (when) I lose, I'll continue keeping score from that point and see how long it takes me to get the lead. I can see the score now 2065-2064. Then I'll start a thread, "who can beat the ghost in a race to 2000".:D
