How much "EXACTLY" is taken out for fees and "EXACTLY" how much goes into the prize fund from all the different entry fees listed ?

Are there any other fees?

Don't see any other tour director answering that question. Oh, tell Janis I love how part of his "package" to pool rooms includes cues valued at full MSRP, hilarious.

Considering this GSBT/AZ fiasco: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=221554&highlight=gsbt one would think that the GSBT would want to give full disclosure about the fees at there events.

On the average from that thread it looks like the GSBT keeps about $30 per player for themselves regardless of the what entry fee the player is. I am not positive it is this much so I to would like to know what portion of the entry fee is held back and not put into the prize fund.

Every respectable tour and tournament promoter appears to have these specific amounts on there advertisements so it is definitely not unreasonable to ask this question. A few clicks here in the AZ Tournament section will show you that most do this.

Looking at the last event the GSBT had in Conyers GA ( info can be found here: http://www.azbilliards.com/2000storya.php?storynum=8741 ), if all 33 players paid $60 to get in and there was $1,500 added to the prize fund the total entry fee take was $1,980. Of that $1,980 only $875 Made it's way into the prize fund so that means the tour kept $1,105 of the entry fees which breaks down to the tour kept $33.48 per player and only $26.51 per player made it's way into the prize fund.

Or if all the players paid the nominal fee of $50 per player to enter the event then only about 50% of the entry fees made it into the prize fund in this best case scenario.

Either way I think the original question of "
How much "EXACTLY" is taken out for fees and "EXACTLY" how much goes into the prize fund from all the different entry fees listed ?" needs to be answered.

Hmmmm. Let's look at another prominent tour in the South, the Maxim Billiards tour. At their "economy buster" price, players pay $30 entry fee ($10 to registration & greens fees) + either a $10 1x fee or $30 for a 12 month card. So, if this player pays $40 to play, 50% of what he/she pays is going into the prize pool. I see what's coming next, buy the tour card and you'll save money. However, given the wide range of locales the tour travels to (NC, VA, GA, FL, MS, TN, LA) and rising travel costs, most players will only be going to a select few events, so buying the tour card may actually be a bad deal.

The GSBT events I have attended has led me to believe the vast majority of entrants are league players and that most of the $60 entrants are balanced out by a $30 female entry. So for arguments sake, let's assume A) you are right & GSBT is keeping 45%-50% of entries, and B) I am right that the vast majority of Maxim players pay the $40 per event instead of getting the card. Given that, why aren't you going after Maxim as well?

I am not "GOING AFTER" any tour. I am asking for a fee breakdown like the other tours and tournaments do. Yes, just like the Maxim Tour does and many, many other events.

PS.. Tim, I sure hope you are not a representative of the GSBT as you make a lousy rep. But that's just my opinion.

I should also mention that it is a shame the GSBT can't answer a few simple questions regarding the events they hold. I have now seen at least 2 different unanswered questions. 1 about fees withheld from the events entry fees and the 2nd about why they failed to add the money they promised as guaranteed added to the event. Not good business IMO.

not a rep, just not understanding why you continually go after good people.

I wish I could play in one of these. Sound like great tournaments. I added them to my tournament list on my site. Hope they fill up for you!

This will solve ALL questions that anyone has about the GSBT entry fees and what is put in the prize fund and what we take as compensation for our time, efforts, and promoting that we do.

All entries (except ladies) regardless if it is a discounted player, meaning league, senior, junior, or military, or a regular entry a $24 registration/ tournament fee is taken out. For the women players who pay $30, a $10 registration/tournament fee is taken. This info is on the fliers and I will definitely ADD this to the threads and add a separate section on our Great Southern Billiard Tour website. If any of you have attended a GSBT tournament you will see that before the first round is completed the pay outs are posted with all of this info. There is nothing to hide here!

If you think the tournament/registration fee is too much let me give you a little run down of the things we have expenses for throughout the year. Well, for example just today I put a brand new set of tires on our vehicle, wear and tear and oil changes every 3000 miles, gas, office supplies (ink, copies, mailings, post office fees, ect), crystal trophy for each winner at every tournament, $50 to the highest lady finisher, countless hours of computer/phone work, food while we are on the road, and sometimes an extra hotel expense for the tournaments that are further away depending on when we finish.

I don't mind answering any and all questions to anyone who has concerns, it just seems like it's the same ones over and over again. I have said this before maybe our tour is not a good fit for you or you may think of starting your own business venture, or you may already have one that is failing. In any case, again we don't have anything to hide and if you think we are getting rich running this tour you are saddly mistaken. Take for instance this past weekend, we had 33 players not such a hot turn out. Alot of players are in Vegas for the BCA, so we didn't get a good showing. When we do have a good turn out of let's say 70 to 80 players it equals out just as it does in any business. The ones that are really interested will understand. The others will continue to bash, which is okay. We will continue to run the GSBT with honesty and integrity.

Thanks and hope this answers your questions and gives you a better understanding of how the GSBT operates.

Just to let you know I was not dodging your questions, I hope they have been answered in my reply, if you also would like me to post how many reg entries, league, seniors, juniors, military, and ladies that we had at the Conyers event this weekend~ along with their names, I will gladly do that too so that your numbers will add up. Just shows when the public speculates on what players paid and then try to add the numbers they never add up, geez I wonder why? Because again you are guessing and trying to cast stones.

The thread has been changed. I will spend more time tomorrow to add this info to all of the other threads as well.

Thanks!

I get increasingly tired of these "bean counters" that question every tournament or tour. Everyone seems to want something for nothing or want 100% of the entry to be given out as prize fund. These are the same nits who want the 6 out and the snap I would bet.

Well, it takes money to run these things. I for one damn sure wouldn't do it for free. Matter of fact, given what the TD and promoter stand to make, I would want MORE to do it, not less.

There's a simple solution for people bashing on the potential of turning 60 bucks into 1000+ for a couple days of good competitive play...stay home. You're just going to get smoked anyway. If you think otherwise, come out and put your money where your mouth is.

Sorry for the rant....This stuff is getting on my nerves lately.

Back to a bump for a great tourney.
