GUINESS Singapore Leg - watch LIVE via TVU/SOPCAST

Rack 14
Wu makes the 1 in the side, but hasn't landed on the 2. He's got a thin safety on the 2, or he can push. He's opted to push. Both players have now used all of their extensions. Wu barely moves the CB, and Alex chooses to pass. Wu now has to take on the safety he didn't want to take on two minutes ago. Wu hits the safety, but leaves Alex an easy two rail kick to leave the CB on the end rail, two moves up table to the head rail, with blockers in between. Wu kicks one rail, making good contact, but leaves a 1/2-ball hit table length cut shot for Alex. Alex makes the two, but leaves himself tough after the CB unintentionally caroms off the 4. Alex makes the tough cut, and now he has a routine out. There's a slight issue with the 7 to 8 positional play, but I don't think he'll have a problem with it (3 or 4 rail inside english).

Alex clears to reach the hill first, and he has the break.

Rack 15

Alex makes a couple of balls on the break, and the 1 lands right in front of the CB and the corner pocket. This is about as easy a run-out you could hope for in a hill-rack. Alex is out, and wins 9-6.

Orcullo vs. Yang winner plays Alex in the final.

next match ORCULLO vs CS YANG....who's your pick to face Alex in the finals?

Alex almost always has Wu's number, but I can't say the same for Dennis against Yang, but I'm still hoping for an all-Pinoy finals...

I don't have a stake in this one, so I'll pick Yang. I'm sure he'll use the soft break like everyone else, but I'd much rather see him break hard - that's a wonderful sight to see.

Orcullo (or is it OrcOllo?) vs Yang, rack 1

TVU has been great all night, now it's getting choppy.
Dry break leads to a safety battle on the 1. After a few good kick safeties, Orcullo leaves a full ball for Yang to see. Yang doesn't play a very good safety, leaving a full ball view for Orcullo. He still doesn't have a shot, and plays yet another safety. He leaves an easy one rail kick safety for Yang, which he executes but again leaves a full ball view for Orcullo. Orcullo's reply leaves a full ball snooker, but with enough distance for Yang to masse around the blocker. He makes a good hit and gets a full ball snooker. Dennis jumps the blocker and makes the 1 - what a great shot. There's a cluster with the 5 and 9 that Dennis has to solve....

Now the feed has gotten really choppy....

Orcullo attempts a safety (I think) on the 5, but leaves a wide open shot for Yang. Yang comes dangerously close to scratching after making the 5, but he winds up good on the 6 and now it's an elementary out. Yang clears to make it 1-0.

Rack 2

I missed the break, but Yang is shooting the 1. There's a bit of a mess by the lower-right corner pocket involving the 9, so we may see a short rack with a billiard to the 9 off the 6. Yang is forced to take a short-side rail-length shot on the 4. He has not finished to play the billiard on the 6. Oh, the 6 goes clean. Hell, it looked like the 9 was blocking the 6. Yang tries the billiard off the 7 into the 9 left-handed, and ducks up the 7 for Orcullo. Curious why he chose to play it that way - he had a much easier two way shot if he had chosen to play the combo. Anyway, Orcullo clears the last three balls to tie it up at one-all.

WOW..what a shot by Dennis.. he is very good at jump shots

Exciting match. This will be a close one between 2 of the best players in the world.

Rack 3

Orcullo makes 3 balls with the soft break. The CB is left on the rail, with a very difficult shot on the 4 (close to 90 degree into the side). Orcullo plays a good safety, leaving a full ball snooker. Yang chooses to jump (watch out for the CB leaving the table!). Yang makes a good hit, leaving the CB near the end rail and sending the 4 ball up table. It's another full ball snooker, and another jump shot for Orcullo. HE MAKES IT AGAIN! This one was much tougher than the one in the first rack, and he drilled it into the middle of the corner pocket. Now he's looking at a tough shot on the 5, but he makes it look easy. He's still out of line for the 6, but he makes that one look easy, too. Now he's in line for the last 3 balls, and he should be out.

Orcullo clears to make it 2-1 in his favor.

Rack 4

Yang uses a relatively soft break. He pockets a couple of balls and leaves a tricky positional play from the 1 to the 3. He gets a fortunate roll to get on the 3 (Bob makes it sound like he meant to do what he did, though). The only "trouble" from here is the 7-8 combo, but as long as he leaves the 7 in the pocket, he should be fine. Yang executes perfectly, and clears to even the match at 2-2.

Rack 5

Dennis changes the CB position for this break. He still soft breaks, but makes the wing ball, not the 1. He has a routine shot on the 1, and the balls are fairly open. There are a couple of non-trivial positional plays from here, but these guys are good and I expect Dennis to get out. He leaves himself having to jack up for the 4, but he makes it with no problem. Now he has an elementary out, but he gets a little straight on the 8. He doubles the corner with inside follow and gains position on the 9.

Orcullo up 3-2.

Rack 6

Yang hits them a little harder, and comes up dry. Orcullo has an easy safety, but leaves a bit of the 1 open to view. Yang pockets an 80+ degree shot on the 1 and has position on the 2. He goes back and forth to play the 3 in the same pocket, and threads the needle to make position on the 4. Yang is forced to take a long straight-in shot on the 5, and he drills it. He makes it to the 8, but has a "tweener" - he can try either the corner or the side. He opts for the corner.

Yang clears - tied at 3.

Rack 7

Dennis executes the soft break well, and as long as one of the wing balls is going, he's going to be tough to beat. He has position on the 1, but goes a little long on position for the 2. He opts to take on the 2-9 combo, which he misses, but he played a good two way shot and leaves a full-ball snooker for Yang. Yang brings out the jumper again, and leaves a cut for Orcullo. Orcullo makes the two, and he figures to be out from here, as there are no problems and all the balls are close to pockets.

Orcullo clears to take a 1 rack lead, 4-3.

-djb

Rack 8

Yang makes a ball on the break, and has a good look at the 1. I see no problems here at all.

Yang makes a routine BNR to even the match at 4-all.

Rack 9

This will be the last rack I watch - I have to get up in a few hours (f210, Lenny, gopi - fee free to pick up the play-by-play).

Dennis makes the 1 in the side as well as the wing ball and has a great shot on the 2. He has a smallish position window to the 4, but he makes it look easy again. These guys are playing VERY well right now. Dennis leaves himself a bit of a "tweener", but he should be out now.

Dennis clears to make it 5-4 in his favor.

-djb <-- Good night, everyone!
