GUINNESS 9Ball Tour Grand Finals 08/31 to 09/02

It's Chang Jung Lin leading Corteza, 3-zip with Van-Van breaking next.
Corteza is obviously a slow starter, just like in his previous match with Wu
Chia Ching were he was trailing most of the way...

A break and runout for Van-Van makes it 1-3, still in favor of Chang and Chang's breaking next...

I just reach my office. Can't watch it. Now only left with Gopi to update us the score.;)

Good thing I got weekends off! lol
It's 4-1 Chang, with Lee Vann breaking next...

A B&R for Chang makes it 5-2 with Corteza breaking next. Good quality pool
so far with great safeties and equally great escapes and successful breaks
from both players.

It's now 10 games to 8 Chang and he's breaking for the win. Lee Vann
Corteza's got a long way to go before he joins Efren, Busta, Dennis or even
Marlon as one of the Philippines' elite. His thought process when facing
covered balls is just to whack at it, without any plan whatsoever.

He doesn't deserve to win this one.

Chang broke dry but Corteza snookered himself after an easy shot. It's all
over but the shouting. Chang Jung Lin is the Guinness 9-Ball grand champion!

I watched it all today and most of Friday and Saturday. Congrats to Chang and all of the other players.

One thing that irritates the hell out of those of us Westerners living in Asia is the announcers. After six matches, won three each by two players, the announcers have never learned to pronounce their names correctly and have taught the viewing public to mispronounce also.

For those who don't know, the names Yang and Chang DO NOT rhyme with bang and rang. The "a" vowel is a short vowel sound in these names.

Say "chalk", then say Chang. Say "yawn" then say Yang

If you listen to Georgina (Chang) , the Asian announcer, pronounce the names , she does it correctly.

Same goes for Chao Fong "Pang" and if you know any Chinese named Wang, same there too.

What can you say about the Filipino commentator Bob Guerrero? The 2
commentators are pretty new to the game, I can tell by the way they drool
on an easy CB maneuver with a lot of spin. They're sooo fascinated by a
spinning CB that travels 3 or 4 rails and lands on the next shot. They
couldn't even tell if a ball goes or not, and second guessing the players is as hard as hitting the next lottery.

In my opinion, Bob is the better of the two but they both pretty much suck. Every time Chuck says "Predator pool stick" I bet the Predator people choke.

You're right in that they don't really have a clue what is going on in the game. Again Bob is a little better, Chuck is a vacuum of knowledge. They may be relatively new, but if that was my job, I would spend days and hours watching other tapes and learning. I would also learn to pronounce the players names. If tennis commentators can pronounce Sharapova, Kuznetsova, etc, surely Chang and Yang can't be too difficult.

I also got sick of hearing about the " new special cue ball with six red dots."

They not only suck but also have a bias in favour of the filipinos, and it is unfair to the players from other countries.

Understand your feeling. Just have to get used to it.

I think there are few commentators, but the one we saw on TV are the only ones speaking English. Maybe from Manila for Philppine viewers, hence a little bias for the Filipino. If we saw Taiwanese commentators, surely bias for the Taiwanese, but we won't understand a word they are saying, nor the Indonesians.

Ouch, total shut out.

Philippine Snooker and Billiards Association shouldn't have messed with "the Efren" and his "superfriends." LOL
