Gus Szamboti cue at the ICCS show

Here is a picture taken at the ICCS show. This cue was brought by Lucky. Pictured is his assistant, Mia, holding the cue. I really regret not taking several pictures of this cue. It was amazing. Only one of two cues Gus made with gold inlays. The value of the cue was estimated to be in the $150,000 range.

Where is the gold? Ringwork. Everything appears to be ivory in the pics.

Great cue, and he is "Lucky" to have it!

Sorry, I should have mentioned this before. The hearts and diamonds inlayed in the butt sleeve are solid gold.

Can any one explain without chuckling what makes this cue worth 150 grand?

Before you jump my case, know that I love Szamboti cues. Dare say they are my favorite. Okay they are my favorite. In fact I have owned a few, and even got one directly from Gus 30 years ago which I kick myself every day over,,,,,,selling it. So this post is not meant as a knock.

Every one can agree that the gold is rare,,,,,,,,,,but are the six and eight and even fancy no pointers not much rarer than this four point style? I mean this cue does not even have an ivory joint or leather. The cue is incredible but come on with estimate. Who stated that figure, the owner? The gold cannot be worth over 100 grand.

im more cornfused as to why someone who admits the szamboti they had

made for them wasnt worth keeping would want som explanation.

You may know the drill. A supposed friend hounded me for a long time about selling it. Well making a long story short, stupid me winds up selling it to him with a buy back understanding. He then disappears on me and have not seen him in many years,,,,,,,,,likely dead. Then I was out of pool for a long time but came back. Bought my other Szamboti about twelve years ago from J. Wright,,,,,,,,,,that one will be buried with me.

Lucky isn't trying to sell the cue unless someone stepped up and offered to pay the 150 grand price he put on the cue. There is no guide for selling prices like an NADA book for cars that covers pool cues. Cue prices are placed on cues by the seller based on what he or she thinks someone will pay.

I saw a 4 point Dennis Searing cue for sale at the US Open that had 4 veneers, no trim rings, 1 notched diamond with 2 dots of abalone in each point and 4 abalone notched diamonds with dots in the butt sleeve, a nice leather wrap and the seller was asking $7000 for the cue! It was a very nice cue, but not that much nicer than many other cues built like it except for the fact that Dennis Searing made it and his cues are hard to come by. The seller said he had the cue sold and I was amazed that someone would pay $7000 for the cue since Dennis is still alive and building cues. Prices are set based on what someone is willing to pay so maybe a one of a kind Gus Szamboti with gold inlays should be priced in that range.

Szamboti posters

I have 2-posters technically calenders of lucky's 1999 collection and 2000 collection. If you think looking a one cue makes you nuts look at a dozen at a time. They are powerhouse calenders. If someone offers fair price I will sell. I got them from Hawaii aki I can show pictures to interested party's

If the buyer wants to reveal his identity, that would be his choice.
