SOLD - This is a Guz Szamboti cue I bought from Gus in 1983. It comes with a Fellini case. It was refinished in 1993 by Tim Scruggs. Rewrapped a few times, the latest wrap is from Ernie Martinez. Cue plays great, like a Szamboti should. It is a 62 inch long cue. I think Gus made only a few cues of this length. If you need more info or pics contact me at BTSI444@aol.com

No paperwork for the cue. Barry Szamboti looked thru records in 1983 but did not find anything, and mentioned that Gus did not keep the best records. I wrote up this blurb about the cue.

My name is Jack Brandt. I bought this 62.5 inch, 21.5 ounce pool cue from Gus Szamboti back in 1983. He had originally made it for another guy, but Gus said he sent him the cue twice for C.O.D., but the guy did not pick it up. He then sold it to me for $382.00. He shipped it C.O.D. to the Rapid City, SD post office in a triangle shaped box, and I picked it up there.

I used the cue much for the next 10 years. The finish had worn down above the wrap a bit, so I had it refinished in 1993 by Tim Scruggs. Around 1996, I had the cue rewrapped by Ernie Martinez in Denver. He mentioned my name was written on the butt under the wrap. I got the joint protectors around 1995. The cue is all original except for the wrap and tips. There is a microscopic crack just below one maple inlay. That crack has been there since I bought the cue. It is not something you ever notice unless you look hard for it with good eyes or a 2x visor.

The case is a custom made Fellini - with a long cap to handle the cue’s extra length. I bought it in 1983 at the same time I bought the cue.

The cue has been handled with care throughout its life. It was never left in the heat or cold, and it still plays incredibly well. I have always felt that you can feel the power in a Gus Szamboti cue. It has that magical feeling that few cues deliver.

I sold a Gus a few years ago that was similar to this cue for $8.250. I am not a buyer, but I think this is a pretty good deal for someone,
IMO this appears to be a genuine Gus and I totally believe your story,

can you take a micro pic of the crack . i know my luck soon as i got it would break in half. ,wanna know how bad my luck is ,
2 new cars ive bought thru the years on way home from stealership , the motors blew up . true story

id love to have it

If it were 58 inches or 57 inches my money would have already been in your pocket- However, you say Gus did not make this cue for you, but your name was "discovered" under the wrap in 1996, does anyone here know if Tim Scruggs would write an owners' name under the wrap back in 1993-prior to putting on a new wrap- otherwise- how would Gus know that you would be the eventual owner of a cue made for someone else?

the pic 20210123_120238.jpg shows that microcrack. It is a jagged line from top left of maple running down at a slight angle to the butt plate.

On the issue of my name on the butt, I can only say that is what I recall. My brother and I each gave Ernie our Szamboti cues for rewrapping. He also made cues for us that kinda felt like our Szams, and he signed them. I have mine for sale on this forum. It could have been my brother's name was on his Szam and I got the story wrong. I was living in AZ at the time, and I prolly got the story 2nd hand from my brother. It was 25+ years ago so yeah, maybe my name aint on the butt, I would not know for sure unless I have it rewrapped.

Well why not send Cue to Barry for letter say it is, or is not a Szamboti?

Understand Express US Mail & Insurance both ways, would be high. But that letter would help with sale. imho,

I’ve personally seen Gus’s records for a couple hours. I looked at some cues I knew of and the original owners. Hand written by Gus, was a amazing feeling seeing them decades later.

Cue here is priced very fair, Looks good to me. Checking in with Barry would be a perfect idea and would serve the seller & buyer in this deal.

That’s my 2¢ And I believe the seller FWIW, looks good.

Best
